Yard in good form at present and may have been unlucky when close second at Haydock latest having started slowly. 3lb higher but has every chance if jumping off on terms this time.
All three wins came over 5f when trained by Clive Cox and hasn't hit form in four starts for current handler since being gelded. Coming down the weights though but not certain to see it out over this trip.
Last win came at Chester 6f in May 2019 off 79 but went close last time at Chepstow when kept on well in third over 5f. Step back up to 6f looks right call off 1lb higher and may not be at all far away this time.
Hamilton 6f nursery winner last season and ran creditably two subsequent starts in 2019. Showed pace on first run for nine months then faded after 2 out over 7f at Doncaster three weeks ago. Eased 2lb and should be straighter for the run back at 6f.
Real moneyspinner last year winning three including valuable Newbury Sales race. Close fourth over 5f at Goodwood penultimate start and never at the races after being bumped at start here last time. 3lb lower now and not out of it on pick of form.
First-time hood added having gone close at HQ 7f penultimate start before disappointing at Chelmsford 7f latest. Still a maiden and may not be the most straight-forward conveyance.
7f Kempton novice auction winner in October last year then reappeared to win Newbury 6f on handicap bow last month. Good third at Haydock latest on soft ground off 7lb higher mark and remains unexposed. Up another 3lb but looks a contender.
Won Yarmouth 6f heavy and Lingfield 6f AW last year but hasn't shown a great deal so far this term in two outings. Eased total of 4lb but might be worth waiting for evidence he has definitely trained on.
5-35 career record and ran well a number of times on AW this winter without managing to land a victory. Not disgraced C&D reappearance last month but didn't figure at Sandown latest, although reportedly lost a shoe. Coming down the weights.
6f Goodwood novice auction winner last summer then followed up on handicap bow in 6f Kempton nursery. Kept on when third over C&D four weeks ago and is respected with some improvement likely.
Forecasts
Broughtons Gold (6/4), Tenax (5/1), Al Dawodiya (13/2), Epsom Faithfull (15/2), Lihou (10/1), Good Night Mr Tom (10/1), Doc Sportello (20/1), Bettys Hope (20/1), Little Brown Trout (22/1), Kick On Kick On (28/1)
A tight-knit affair in which BROUGHTONS GOLD just gets the nod after a couple of good recent efforts and representing a yard in very good form at present. Good Night Mr Tom may improve for the drop back to this trip while top weight Tenax is very much respected and might have won last time had he not fluffed his lines at the start. Bettys Hope, coming back to a feasible mark, and Lihou, whose yard is having its share of winners of late, are others worth adding into calculations.
- Broughtons Gold
- Tenax
- Lihou
