Modest sort these days, shown little in two starts for this yard without usual headgear (hood). Looks to be still finding his form (edged down the handicap again), tries a first-time visor, not won on turf for nearly two years though.

Lightly-raced sort for his age, disappointed in two handicaps (one his debut in this sphere) either side of a wind op. Yet to run on turf, returns from a fair absence down to a career-low mark, best effort at 6f, hard to make a case for.

One of two runners for the yard, failed to improve with experience so far although she was poorly drawn when finishing well beaten over C&D last time. Hardly fared any better this time with the draw, faces another tough task.

Ran poorly switched to the AW for his handicap debut at Wolverhampton (6.1f, slow), still looked inexperienced (never landed a blow). Dropped back to 5f on turf (cheekpieces now on), decent draw, still makes limited appeal.

Appears the better of the stables two runners having not been seen to best effect last time at Thirsk (5f, good/soft), race may have come too soon after return. 4lb below last winning mark, capable of winning something like this if events fall right.

Looked to have some potential for low-grade handicaps but failed to progress on his debut in this discipline switched back to turf at Thirsk over 6f. Tongue-tie worn then remains, however, he drops back to 5f with something to prove.

Had looked rather limited as a 2yo (well beaten in three 5f starts) prior to her handicap debut as a 3yo over C&D off 3lb higher. Cheekpieces now applied for her second handicap attempt; done little to entice an investment so far.

Modest maiden (0-6, 0-3 on turf), produced two fair efforts since racing resumed over C&D (third) and at Thirsk (6f, good/firm) last time (second). Career-best on his latest start, well drawn to repeat that effort off same mark, claims in weak event.

12/1
Handicap newcomer who looks to have been brought along with this sort of test in mind having been given three quick runs of late at 6f/7f in minor events. Drops to 5f for the first time (nicely-drawn), hard to be confident, market may tell a story.

Two C&D outings have produced only a pair of modest efforts; now enters handicaps for the first time. Remains with some potential although she's not been blessed with an easy draw, comes with less convictions than most here.

Age: 4|  Weight: 8-12| J: Barry McHugh| T: T Coyle & K Wood| OR:  45

Best efforts have come over 5f, attracted support at Thirsk (5f, good/firm) last time in a minor event finishing third to a better-fancied pair (second run well since). Gained the plum draw off a basement mark, no forlorn hope in that scenario.

Still only has one standout AW effort to her name after eight starts; ran well below that level last time on turf debut (wore first-time cheekpieces). Was set a fair bit to do (finished just behind Newgate Angel), well drawn but work to do overall.

One of only five winners in the field finally breaking his maiden last time after numerous chances off basement marks. Hard to believe he had made much progress to win at Catterick (5f, good), may struggle to follow up even kept to this grade.

66/1
Poor maiden (0-9) whose best form has been over this trip (tried at 6f/7f last twice). Showed some speed ability from a wide draw over 7f at Catterick last time (failed to see out the distance), back to 5f from 5lb out of the weights.

One of two for the yard (looks second string); handed the widest draw of all (will do well to be competitive from there). 50-1 on handicap debut last time at Catterick (5f, good), never landed a blow, hard to see her as a future winner.

Forecasts

The Grey Bay (5/4), Hello Girl (4/1), Newgate Angel (6/1), Pivotal Art (17/2), Guardia Svizzera (11/1), Ruby Dream (12/1), Cuppacoco (12/1), Chillon Castle (18/1), Tiltilys Rock (20/1), Speedymining (20/1), Lady Nectar (22/1), Dandy Story (25/1), You're Cool (33/1), Empty Promises (50/1), Stone Princess (50/1), Sweet Embrace (66/1), The Saddle Rock (66/1)

Verdict

Big-field, low-grade affair where the draw may well play a part with the sole C&D winner in the line-up Hello Girl drawn wide and facing a difficult task to win from there under an inexperienced apprentice. Those drawn in single figures hold more appeal with gallant Thirsk second THE GREY BAY from a stable that has done well with their sprinters this year taken to build on what was a career-best start back over a more suitable 5f. Newgate Angel and Chillon Castle are closely matched on their Thirsk 5f form last time in a minor event, there may not be much between those two again. Handicap debutant Ruby Dream is worth noting for any positive market vibes with Cuppacoco also worth a mention.
  1. The Grey Bay
  2. Newgate Angel
  3. Ruby Dream
