French import scored at Listowel (6½f, yielding) a year ago on second start for this yard, some tough assignments in handicaps afterwards; will have needed recent run at the Curragh and can get closer here.

Well backed to win for the third time in his career when landing the spoils in a Dundalk 1m handicap on the AW in February and followed up last month at Gowran Park; could still be progressive and one to note.

Losing run is mounting up and has produced two contrasting performances this season at Curragh - producing a fine second place finish then struggling off same mark next; hard to assess.

Last three racecourse appearances have been woeful efforts over hurdles; does have some fair form on the Flat and while an unlikely winner cannot be totally ruled out.

Much improved run for new connections last time out at Leopardstown in June finishing second of 16 over seven furlongs; upped in the weights for that effort but could still be competitive.

Disqualified (positive sample) after winning a handicap over seven furlongs here three starts ago in May 2019; excellent effort after long absence to win recently at Leopardstown; up in the weights and hard to win with but has fair chance.

Very consistent but last win came back in 2018; handicapper seems to be one step ahead of him and also needs to bounce back from uncharacteristic bad run last time.

Formerly useful handicapper who has been slipping down the ladder lately, but has posted three decent efforts this season including only faltering close home at the Curragh; respected.

Forecasts

Bucky Larson (9/2), Tauran Shaman (5/1), Ice Cold In Alex (6/1), Lord Rapscallion (13/2), Turbine (15/2), Equitant (9/1), Jassaar (14/1), Aussie Valentine (14/1), San Andreas (16/1), Settle For Bay (20/1), On A Session (33/1), Colfer Me (33/1), Mutadaawel (33/1), Allegio (40/1), Nebo (50/1), Bobby Boy (100/1)

Verdict

EQUITANT finished behind the front-running Turbine at Leopardstown last month but should be able to turn the tables on the second start for new connections. The gelding has been raised a few pounds but has every chance of going one better. The winner that day took advantage of a soft lead and his jockey was allowed to dictate the pace. It's unlikely he will be allowed to do that again. Bucky Larson will have to pull out another career best performance to land his hat-trick but the manner of his latest win at Gowran Park suggests that could be a possibility. Allegio is interesting off his current mark and in first-time tongue tie.
  1. Equitant
  2. Bucky Larson
  3. Turbine
