£43,000 foal; £100,000 yearling; second foal; half-brother to 5f-6f winner Arcanears, out of a Listed-placed 6f-7f winner. Trainer's string a little quiet at present, but a precautionary market check is still probably prudent.
120,000gns yearling; fifth foal; half-brother to 7f-1m AW winner Attainment, out of 6f 2yo winner. Trainer 13% over five seasons with his 2yos, though this is one of his first of the current campaign. Market check.

Dam was a useful 6f/7f South African winner, and this Pride Of Dubai colt was just a 5-2 chance on debut at Newmarket (6f, good to soft) last month, when a 2L fourth, showing promise. Cheekpieces fitted and looks a player.

First foal; dam 1m winning sister to 6f-1m3f winner Sand Skier and half-sister to two other useful winners from 7f-1m2½f. Trainer's 2yos currently 2-7 this season (plus two placed), so no surprise to see a good debut. Blinkered.

Easy to back 8-1 chance on last month's debut at Newmarket (6f, good), but last of six beaten 9L there. Much improvement needed this time.

Acclamation colt out of an Oasis Dream mare. Highly tried on recent debut at Royal Ascot when 33-1 and 6½L sixth of 12 in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes. That was a good start in the context of this race. No surprise to see him go very close.

Ventura Tormenta (4/6), Sidi Mansour (3/1), Apres Dark (10/3), Carlitos Way (7/1), Surprise Picture (14/1), River Wharfe (18/1), Tashbeeh (20/1)

Verdict

Apres Dark was quite impressive when clearly not a huge amount was expected on debut. He should still be capable of going close under a 7lb penalty, but the suggestion is to side with VENTURA TORMENTA. Richard Hannon's colt was not disgraced at Royal Ascot and with an extra furlong to travel here, plus that experience, he could take advantage of the weight concession from Marco Botti's runner. Sidi Mansour is another likely contender, while the market can guide as the newcomers, with Surprise Picture perhaps the more interesting.
  1. Ventura Tormenta
  2. Apres Dark
  3. Sidi Mansour
