Winner at Thirsk (6f) last September and ran well on reappearance at Yarmouth (5f) earlier in the month, possibly bumping into a well-treated rival; step back up to 6f can only help, yard still going well, and he looks one of the main players.

Came good on the all-weather at Kempton last August but just as effective on turf, especially when the ground is on the quick side; yard hitting form but many of theirs have needed a run to put them straight, so watch market for a clue.

One win in 12 starts, that coming at Brighton over 5½f last August; looks quite exposed already but has run two solid runs since coming back from her break, and she should at least run her race under conditions that suit once more.

Runner-up on debut at Kempton last September but well below that form in two subsequent starts, including when weakening quickly on her reappearance run earlier in the month; may be best watched for the time being.

Moderate form on first two starts last year but two subsequent starts have been pretty miserable, well beaten in both; now gelded and back off a break, so there are reasons why he could improve, but he's a risky proposition.

Has run okay in two starts since being handicapped, showing bright speed before being worn down but in truth, you'd be hard pushed to say she's progressing; tongue tie now on to try and help her finishing effort and from a good draw, has chances.

Just a couple of places to show for her seven starts and she does look moderate; fourth on reappearance behind Bonus at Yarmouth (6f) but that form has been let down since, and others simply have stronger claims.

Best effort of his seven so far came at Wolverhampton (6f) when running on well for second behind a useful one at this level; made a satisfactory reappearance at Kempton earlier in the month and now gets a tongue tie; chances from a good draw.

Princess Mayson16
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-13| J: Nicola Currie| T: A West| OR:  52

Ran well on first start for new yard, tried to make all at Yarmouth (7f) but worn down late; that might be a better effort than it first looks, as other pacemakers dropped away, looks well handicapped on Irish form and drop back to 6f interesting.

Well held at big prices in three starts last year, showing little, and hood tried on final start now removed; handicaps at least offer her a more realistic chance, but she needs plenty of improvement now.

Maiden after seven starts, just one piece of form worth a mention when a well-held second at Kempton last November; looks moderate and needs plenty of improvement from somewhere to take a hand here.

Broughtons Compassp10
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-7| J: Joey Haynes| T: M R Hoad| OR:  45

Looks fully exposed as moderate after 13 starts, placed a few times in bottom-grade handicaps on the all-weather; did no better for a wind operation (although not beaten far) on latest start, but looks an unlikely winner.

Cappella Fella14
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-7| J: Gabriele Malune(3)| T: Sarah Hollinshead| OR:  45

One place in eight starts and looks very moderate whatever trip he tries (6f-8f); readily held again on reappearance run at Wolverhampton and hard to see where the necessary improvement is coming from today.

Forecasts

Spurofthemoment (4/1), Craigburn (9/2), Rodney Le Roc (8/1), Princess Mayson (8/1), Bartat (9/1), Shymay (10/1), River Sprite (10/1), Cappella Fella (14/1), Come On Girl (16/1), Broughtons Compass (20/1), Lethal Blast (33/1), Oasis Song (33/1), Billy Button (50/1)

Verdict

Low-grade stuff but that doeasn't make it any easier to solve. There's probably a race in Rodney Le Roc and it could be this one, with the first-time tongue-tie the catalyst for victory. If there's good money around for him he'd be interesting, but top weight CRAIGBURN looks the more solid suggestion at this stage, with the step back up to 6f very much in his favour. Princess Mayson did best of those that were up with the pace at Yarmouth and could go well, especially if there's a bit of rain around. Spurofthemonent will probably try to take them pillar to post but she's starting to look a bit weak at the finish.
  1. Craigburn
  2. Rodney Le Roc
  3. Princess Mayson
