Main hope from Joseph O'Brien's two intended runners on the Lingfield card (also runs Calidus Mirabilis in the 2.30) as he comes into this on the back of confident display at Dundalk last month; he has strong claims running from the same mark here.
Won a couple of novice stakes last summer and kept decent company so far. Gelded prior to a run in Doha last December where he ran with credit without affecting the places (finished fifth of 14). One to bear in mind if attracting strong support.
Cosy winner of a novice stakes on his sole start on turf last year and backed that up with a win in a similar race at Wolverhampton in November. Also ran well in a higher grade last time time out and given a chance on his handicap debut; contender.
One of the more experienced in the line up and a bonus that he's a previous C&D winner; was held from a 1lb higher mark last time out but possible he was given too much to do (both previous wins came from prominent positions); can go close.
Capable of paying his way again but does have a bit to find with Auchterarder on a literal reading of their encounter at Wolverhampton last December. Also needs to bounce back from a moderate effort when last seen (on Boxing Day).
Won a novice auction on turf last May and was put away shortly after. Returned with a string of modest efforts on the AW before landing a class 5 handicap (5f) at Wolverhampton in mid-December. Held from this mark latest and more on at this level.
Showed some ability in three starts on turf last year but needs to step up considerably on the effort he posted over 7f here 11 days ago. That was his first run since being gelded so feasible he could have more offer; the betting can guide.
Forecasts
Dark Vader (5/4), Auchterarder (10/3), Hamish Macbeth (7/2), Lexington Rebel (8/1), Dazzling Des (16/1), I'm Digby (25/1), Heer We Go Again (33/1)
Aucherarder and DARK VADER look the most solid options and, with the latter now looking more like the finished article, the Irish raider just edges the nomination as the one to be on. The colt has adapted well to the Polytrack surface at Dundalk in his homeland and, given that he was successful from this same mark there last time out, he has a solid chance of following up in this company. Aucherarder will be a threat if he's allowed an easy lead, so merits serious consideration as an alternative, while Hamish Macbeth and I'm Digby are both capable of more and also merit betting checks. A bold run from Dazzling Des would also be dangerous to rule out.
- Dark Vader
- Auchterarder
- Hamish Macbeth
