War Command colt; eighth foal; half-brother to five winners including Ingleby Angel (6f-1m1f) and Thornaby Nash (7f-1m); should fare better with time and the benefit of experience banked.
Poet's Voice gelding; second foal from the game 6f-1m winner No Poppy; his trainer Tim Easterby is also responsible for fellow newcomers Shoot To Win and Haaf Eight.
Dark Angel colt; ninth foal from an unraced dam who was a half-sister to the 6f Grp 1 winner Malhub; €340,000 foal, €360,000 yearling; brother to the talented 5f-6f winner Heeraat; very much one for the shortlist.
Resold as a yearling for £2,000; fourth foal from a moderate Invincible Spirit mare; half-brother to the Italian 7½f winner Southpark; trainer Tim Easterby is also responsible for fellow newcomers Lucky Poppy and Haaf Eight.
Sepoy colt out of a Rainbow Quest mare; cost €16,000 as a foal; half-brother to four winners including Navajo Chief (5f-1m1f) and Imphal (1m5f-2m); has changed trainers since finishing last of 17 (66-1) at The Curragh (6f) in May 2019.
Dabirism colt (€98,000 yearling); placed on both turf starts last summer, albeit was a well beaten 11-8f at Ffos Las (7½f, good to soft); off since August; trainer saddled a treble here last October (6-19, 32% overall) and SDS is a positive booking.
Dawn Approach newcomer; fourth foal from a French winning dam (6½f); trainer not known for supplying a steady stream of winners in such events; safer to look elsewhere unless strong market confidence is evident.
Fourth foal from the 1m US turf scorer Karakonite; half-sister to the GB Flat (1m2f)/US hurdle (2m1f-2m3f) winner Lady Blanco; encouraging debut second to Badrah at Kempton (7f, maiden fillies') four weeks ago; sets the benchmark for the others.
Third foal from the tough 7f-1m2f winner Cheers For Thea; trainer Tim Easterby is also responsible for fellow newcomers Lucky Poppy and Shoot To Win; one for further down the line?
Dragon Pulse filly (€6,000 yearling); showed plenty of natural speed until weakening inside the final furlong when fifth of seven on C&D debut (100-1) 13 days ago; this looks more competitive.
Kendargent filly (€18,000 yearling); first foal from a dam who was unplaced in France (5f-1m4f); best watched on her introduction to racing in a competitive affair.
Forecasts
Productive (1/1), Ventura Bounty (2/1), Arju (7/2), Lucky Poppy (33/1), Waitangi (33/1), Tough Character (40/1), Ingleby Command (40/1), Plusdargent (40/1), Shoot To Win (66/1), Haaf Eight (80/1), Nellie French (80/1)
Not a great deal of available form on which to base a solid and informed opinion. However, ARJU arguably achieved in a single start what Ventura Bounty has achieved in two, and also has the benefit of experience of racing on an artificial surface (Polytrack) to fall back upon. Robert Cowell's Karakonite filly finished a creditable second to Badrah at Kempton (7f) four weeks ago and can be expected to progress with the benefit of that experience banked. Of the newcomers, Karl Burke's Productive (a €360,000 Dark Angel yearling) is the most striking on paper.
- Arju
- Productive
- Ventura Bounty
