Showed the benefit of his initial experience on turf at Nottingham in testing conditions when switched to the AW last time again over 1m at Kempton. Ought to progress again but needs this run for a mark; future may lie in handicaps.

Left his debut form well behind when finishing with purpose over C&D last time having looked in need of the experience on debut. Form of that outing has yet to be tested but there's every chance that he will do better still.

Took an age to get organised when finishing second in a muddling event at Wolverhampton on his debut over an extended 1m (looked inexperienced). Uneasy in the market last time, failed to progress, still has something to learn, stable second choice.

Yard 2-50 with 2yo newcomers since 2015; price rose markedly from foal to yearling (75,000 guineas). Half-brother to several winners, including smart winner up to 1m Sea of Grace; dam 1m4f winner, likely to come on for the outing.

Looked green on his debut (Kempton, 1m); still shaped well staying on to be nearest at the finish beaten just over 7L. Given his pedigree it wasn't surprising he lacked the speed/experience to make an impact; type to make a decent 3yo over further.

Looked badly in need of the experience on his Kempton (1m) debut but kept on in the style of one who will improve to finish fifth. Put in the race much earlier on his latest start he failed to improve weakening to finish behind King Of Arms.

Plenty of stamina in the pedigree and looks a typical sort from this yard who will improve as a 3yo in middle distance handicaps. Fared in a moderate fashion on both his starts so far over 1m; better expected once he has a mark.

Made his debut in a Wolverhampton novice over an extended 1m finishing in front of two of today's rivals. Shaped with promise despite being friendless in the market, travelled better than most in the field, likely to show more this time.

Still showing his inexperience last time at Kempton over 1m (made his debut over the same C&D) he fared a lot better than when making his initial start. Kept on at the death (not unduly punished); will improve and in good hands to do so.

Stable a modest 2-35 with 2yo newcomers this year; closely related to useful 2yo 1m winner Thomasgainsborough and half-sister to several winners. Given the yard's record with newcomers this year best watched unless there is a market move.

Yard a very respectable 6-25 with 2yo debutants this year; price increased €12,000 from foal to yearling (€62,000). Half-sister to several winners, including 1m2f-1m4f winner Headline News; one to note if the market moves in a positive fashion.

Matched her promising pedigree with an equally encouraging debut display at Kempton over 1m in a fillies' novice that appears fair form. Subject of no more than a hands-and-heels ride, she should make considerable progress; leading player.

Forecasts

Shimmering (7/4), King Of Arms (7/2), Orczy (6/1), Superior Moment (6/1), Swooping Eagle (8/1), Glorious Caesar (14/1), Sheila (16/1), Pawpaw (25/1), Longsider (33/1), Haida Gwaii (33/1), Critique (66/1), Pleasure Garden (100/1)

Verdict

The winner of this last year – Entitle – was trained by John Gosden and she went on to finish second in the Musidora at York and he has a good chance of taking this event again with SHIMMERING. Tenderly handled on what was a promising debut she’s expected to improve considerably for that experience. The trainer also runs King Of Arms who still looks to have something to learn and a greater danger may well come via Swooping Eagle and Superior Moment both of whom have shown promise in their previous starts. Of the newcomers Sheila from the Hugo Palmer barn needs noting on her debut especially if market support arrives.
