Only one in this race with recent winning form to his name. 8lb worse off with Dutch Artist after the pair met at Chelmsford (1m; standard) recently, but he finished comfortably in front of that rival.

One of a number in this contest who are in the doldrums at present (not won since May 2016). Work to do to reverse the form with Clipsham Tiger after they met last time, but he is 8lb better off with that rival.

0-6 on the AW, and has been in dire form throughout this year. Subsequently finds himself on a career-low mark, and a major revival is now required. Best watched until offering more encouragement.

41-race maiden who looked in desperate need of a step back up in trip when a staying-on fourth over 6f at this track last month. Place claims if benefitting for return to 1m.

Five-time C&D winner who registered the latest of those victories back in March. 2lb below that mark now after a few lesser efforts. Did hint at a return to form two starts back when runner-up at Brighton (1m; good to firm) though.

Returned from short break when tailed off over C&D to finish 12th of 14 last month. 6lb below last winning mark but doesn't look capable of taking advantage of that at the moment so she can only be watched.

C&D winner in December 2018, however he took another backwards step last time out when ninth of 11 over C&D. Looked disinterested then and cannot be fancied off the back of that performance.

Had been quite a consistent performer over the past few months, prior to going off the boil over C&D the last twice. Both career wins have came over this C&D though, so she is not ruled out if able to bounce back.

Runner-up effort at Chester (7.5f; soft) two starts ago proved to be a fluke when he failed to reproduce that level of form when eighth in this grade at Wolverhampton (7f; standard) last month. Steps back up to 1m, but best runs have came on turf.

0-23 on the AW but he posted a more encouraging effort at Wolverhampton (1m; standard) when third at that track three starts back. Has since failed to run to that level in two subsequent starts so is a risky proposition.

Winless in 17 starts, and has been on the go since April. Been struggling for form of late, and looks the type to oppose with considerable ease given his stale profile.

Produced modest efforts in maidens prior to handicap debut. Failed to get involved off a basement mark then, and more of the same expected. Extremely hard to enthuse over given what little impact she has made in her career so far.

Achieved next to nothing in his winless seven race career so far. Failed to beat a single rival the last twice at both Thirsk (1m; good) and most recently Beverley (1m2f; good to firm). Impossible to fancy given the manner of his latest defeat.

14-race maiden who makes return from 143-day break. Last seen at Hamilton (1m1f; good to firm) in June when narrowly missing out on third. Career-best effort came on the AW around this time last year when she was second at Newcastle (6f; standard).

Forecast

Clipsham Tiger (11/8), Sea Shack (13/2), Molten Lava (7/1), Limerick Lord (8/1), Henrietta's Dream (12/1), Port Soif (12/1), Dutch Artist (16/1), Face Like Thunder (33/1), You Little Beauty (33/1), Jane Camille (40/1), Jagerbond (50/1), Prince Consort (50/1), Stainforth Swagger (66/1), Little Choosey (100/1)

Verdict

A tricky race to start proceedings with consistency a predictably hard quality to come by. Port Soif has ran well below-par the last twice, but prior to returning from a three-month break she had been a reliable performer over this C&D and is surely capable of better. Many of the rest of the field can be confidently ruled out, but not CLIPSHAM TIGER and Dutch Artist who recently met at Chelmsford. The former had the latter comfortably in behind that day, and is expected to confirm the form. However, it is likely the latter will get closer to the selection given he receives an 8lb swing in his favour.
  1. Clipsham Tiger
  2. Port Soif
  3. Dutch Artist
