4lb higher than when winning on Polytrack at Lingfield (1m) three starts back; perfectly entitled to figure positively if suited by the application of cheekpieces/switch to Fibresand.

Never reached the leaders when finishing ninth of 14 to Makambe over C&D 12 days ago; that said, is also 2lb lower than when running out a decisive 3L winner over C&D in April; a possible player if revived.

Mr Strutter6
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-8| J: A Elliott| T: Ronald Thompson| OR:  60| C

Better suited by a test of stamina nowadays (won here over 6f from his current mark last December); kept on well when third to Atalanta Queen (Break The Silence second) over C&D last week; similar place claims.

Won a Chelmsford novice (7f) for Marcus Tregoning in July 2017 before a truncated season in 2018; 0-6 for Roger Fell in 2019 and makes minimal appeal as a result.

Fiction Writerb120
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-6| J: P J McDonald| T: C & M Johnston| OR:  61
15/2
Ten-race maiden who is fitted with newly applied blinkers seeking the breakthrough; is now rated 10lb lower than when finishing fourth of seven to Love Your Work over C&D in May.

Abie's Hollow16
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-5| J: Ben Robinson| T: T Coyle & K Wood| OR:  60
10/1
15-race maiden; placed on his last couple of starts, including when finishing 2¾L third to the reopposing Break The Silence here (7f) last month; his earlier turf form suggests that he just about stays 1m.

Bunker Hill Lad421
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-3| J: Alistair Rawlinson| T: M Appleby| OR:  55
50/1
Mount Nelson gelding; has shown precious little to enthuse over in five starts for Mick Appleby (1m-1m3f+); easing in the weights on return from a 421-day absence; Fibresand debut; stablemate of Roser Moter.

Break The Silenceb6
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-3| J: Jonathan Fisher(7)| T: S Dixon| OR:  55| BF| C| D
11/4
Three-time course winner (7f); worn down in the shadow of the post by Atalanta Queen (Mr Strutter third) when well supported over C&D last week; 2lb well-in; another solid effort is considered probable; 2-3 for the 7lb claimer Jonathan Fisher.

Oblatep162
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-3| J: K T O'Neill| T: R Brisland| OR:  58
33/1
Beaten a mere 2½L when fourth to Muhaarar's Nephew in a soft ground 1m+ Beverley maiden (66-1) in June; dealt a difficult draw on handicap debut; 4lb lower in newly applied cheekpieces; worth a market check.

Crazy Spinp118
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-11| J: Gabriele Malune(3)| T: I Furtado| OR:  52| BF| CD

6lb higher than when winning a Class 6 C&D handicap in May (runner-up next time); off the track for four months since disappointing at Lingfield (7-4f) in June.

The Thorny Rose27
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-8| J: A Mullen| T: M Dods| OR:  49
25/1
Seven-race maiden; 20-1 when finishing sixth of 13 to Break The Silence (Abie's Hollow third) over 7f here last month; 2lb lower for her first attempt at 1m (stamina questionable).

Wicklow Warriorp275
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-8| J: Nathan Evans| T: P D Niven| OR:  45
66/1
Seven-race maiden; unruly in the stalls when well beaten (12th of 13) at Wolverhampton in January; has previous Southwell experience (fourth) but remains an unlikely candidate on his first competitive start for 275 days.

Roser Moterp,t22
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-8| J: L Morris| T: M Appleby| OR:  45
100/1
Has had plenty of trainers during her racing career, moving onto Dan Skelton (hurdles) after winning on the AW at Wolverhampton for Eve Johnson Houghton; regressive for Mick Appleby (0-8).

Pinkie Pieb115
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-5| J: Cam Hardie| T: A Crook| OR:  45
100/1
Nine-race maiden; is yet to turn her hand to AW racing, although did have an abortive attempt over hurdles at Stratford in July; poorly drawn; first-time blinkers are applied; very unlikely.

Forecasts

Break The Silence (11/4), Bond Angel (4/1), Mr Strutter (5/1), Savitar (7/1), Fiction Writer (15/2), Abie's Hollow (10/1), Watheer (20/1), Crazy Spin (22/1), The Thorny Rose (25/1), Oblate (33/1), Bunker Hill Lad (50/1), Wicklow Warrior (66/1), Roser Moter (100/1), Pinkie Pie (100/1)

Verdict

The rock-solid option is the three-time course winner Break The Silence who has related form with a number of these rivals, including Mr Strutter, Abie's Hollow and The Thorny Rose. Scott Dixon's five-year-old was grabbed close home over C&D last week, spoiling Jonathan Fisher's perfect record aboard (now 2-3). He really deserves to win over 1m on Fibresand, and should figure prominently. However, for a more sporting bet, we'll chance our arm on the lightly-raced filly OBLATE. She was dealt a tough draw on handicap debut at Beverley and switches to Fibresand sporting newly applied cheekpieces. She could out-run her projected odds for an in-form trainer.
  1. Oblate
  2. Break The Silence
  3. Mr Strutter
