Winning for the sixth time when successful in a 5-runner 5f handicap at Musselburgh (soft) on penultimate start, and perhaps best to overlook his latest run at Thirsk, when never involved.
Improving sort who gained his second win of the summer in a C&D handicap off 7lb lower earlier in the month. Better than the bare result when third at Carlisle last time, and remains one to be positive about.
Best effort this term when beaten under 1L into third over C&D a month ago, but he disappointed under an aggressive ride at Pontefract last time, and is proving hard to catch right.
Flopped on penultimate start, but reliable on the whole and bounced back when 1¾L second of 9 to Music Society at Carlisle last time, just in front of the re-opposing Four Wheel Drive. Now 3lb better off, although did have the run of things there.
Placed plenty of times since last success, but his losing run now stretches to 36, and while he has fair form claims here, his backers may have run out of patience.
Last won 13 months ago at Musselburgh, and has run below form on his last two starts with a tongue-tie fitted. That aid replaced by cheekpieces now, but he has a bit to prove at present.
Just one win since 2017 and his very best efforts have come on soft ground. On a good mark, though, and produced his best effort in some time when when neck second of 13 to Atyaaf over C&D last time. Shortlisted.
Has been well below form on the whole this year, a close third at Pontefract in May not repeated since, and didn't go a yard at the same track last time. Hard to back with any confidence.
Needed a drop to selling company to get his head back in front at Musselburgh in July, and has run poorly in a trio of handicaps since. Can't really be entertained until showing more.
Back to form when second at Yarmouth on penultimate start, and built on that when beating Burtonwood over C&D last time. Penalty makes life much harder, as does a very wide draw, but can't be dismissed.
Excuses (lost a shoe) at Windsor last time, and had run well twice at Doncaster prior to that. Wide draw does him no favours, but not a huge shock to see him back to form granted luck.
Has struggled on soft ground on two of his last three starts, so need the ground to dry out, but claims on the form he showed when fourth at Redcar two starts back.
Has gone well for this inexperienced rider the last twice, finishing third at Pontefract over 5f and fourth over 6f at Leicester. Better than the bare result last time, and could have a big part to play dropped back to his ideal trip.
Won on good to soft ground at Carlisle on penultimate start, and shaped pretty well when making late headway into sixth behind Atyaaf here last time. Better drawn here, and isn't out of things by any means.
Suited by this track, beaten only a nose over C&D in July, and coming from off the pace to beat Sheepscar Lad here last time. Only 2lb higher, and likely to go very close once more.
Forecasts
Sheepscar Lad (4/1), Bowson Fred (6/1), Stoney Lane (6/1), Atyaaf (8/1), Excessable (8/1), Four Wheel Drive (12/1), Red Pike (12/1), Moonlit Sands (16/1), Tobeeornottobee (16/1), Billy Dylan (16/1), Shepherd's Purse (18/1), Archimedes (20/1), Bashiba (25/1), Desert Ace (40/1), Van Gerwen (40/1)
ATYAAF and Sheepscar Lad were first and second in a similar contest just over a fortnight ago, and the winner is expected to confirm the form given he's building up a good record at the track, and should have things run to suit his hold-up style again. Tobeeornottobee ran well until his stamina was stretched over 6f at Leicester last time, and will relish the return to shorter, so is also shortlisted in a race where luck may be key.
- Atyaaf
- Sheepscar Lad
- Tobeeornottobee
