Outstrip half-brother to useful winner up to 1¼m Indian Jack (2-y-o 7f winner) and 1m½f winner Indian Trifone, out of a 2-y-o 7f winner. Yard has had a couple of juvenile winners in the past week or so, but strike-rate with newcomers is modest.

A well-bred colt that cost €240,000 as a yearling, but failed to beat a rival on debut at Windsor last month. Sent off a short enough price there, and evidently thought capable of better.

Dark Angel half-brother to 1¼m/1m3f winner Magnetique out of a winning half-sister to owner's very smart 7f-1½m winner Grandeur. Makes plenty of appeal on pedigree, and it pays to follow powerful yard's newcomers, so much respected.

By connections' 2000 Guineas winner Night of Thunder out of a winning daughter of Prix de L'Opera winner Mandesha. Cost €350,000 and holds a couple of Group 1 entries, so looks a leading contender.

40/1
Outstrip half-brother to 5f/6f winner Melonade and 2-y-o 5f-7f winner Woodside Wonder. One of a quartet from the yard here, and market should be a useful guide to their respective merits.

Better effort to date when 5 lengths fourth of 5 to Praxeology in a 6f novice at Salisbury last time. More required here, but has place claims if progressing again.

By Showcasing out of a modest maiden, but price rose to 105,000 gns last year, so clearly has something about him physically. Needs a market check, for all yard is a modest 2-55 with juvenile newcomers here in last 5 years.

Beaten 8L when finishing runner-up in a four runner contest at Bath, and ran to a better level when 3L seventh of 10 to Aussie Showstopper at Kempton last time. Place claims if he can build on that.

Gelded son of Zebedee out of an unraced mare from a good family. One of a pair for the yard here, and the betting should be informative, albeit yard's youngsters invariably better for experience.

Forecasts

Man Of The Night (4/6), Ethic (8/1), Shadow Glen (8/1), Red Sun (10/1), Impressor (12/1), Pitcher (14/1), Raabeh (14/1), New Jack Swing (16/1), Speed Merchant (20/1), Dark Silver (25/1), Outtake (40/1), Bermuda Schwartz (50/1)

Verdict

MAN OF THE NIGHT has a number of big-race entries, and this expensive yearling purchase ticks all the boxes on debut. Ethic is another well-bred debutant and hails from a yard which gets more than its share of winners first time out, so is also a must for the shortlist, with Shadow Glen the type to improve a fair bit for a promising debut at Windsor.
  1. Man Of The Night
  2. Ethic
  3. Shadow Glen
