A winner of one of his nine starts and back to form when runner-up at Newmarket last time. May do even better if he can settle better and this ground should suit.

Took a couple of runs to get going last season but ended the campaign in good form. Well beaten in a tough race at Hamilton on return, shaping as if need of the run but needs a career best to defy this handicap mark, particularly at this trip.

Just one win last year and while he return with two fair efforts this campaign, he seems to have gone off the boil since. Becoming dangerously well-handicapped.

Back below his last winning handicap mark after five below par efforts this year. Tough to fancy at present but yard do well with their sprinters and he's hard to entirely rule out.

A bit more effective on AW than turf, as seen with two wins at Chelmsford so far this campaign. Dropped 1lb for a sixth at that venue last time out and opposable back on turf.

C&D winner last year who got his head back in front at Newcastle in January. Respectable effort when eighth of 21 here last time but might need some more relief from the handicapper before he's of interest again.

Very tough sort to predict these days and needs everything to drop right for him. Obviously well-handicapped on his form from 2016 and has a course win to his name but hardly one to rely on.

Only found one too good in a 19 runner handicap here on final start of 2018 when bidding to follow up a Pontefract win. Shaped like a return to form may be close at Thirsk last time but drop back in trip may inconvenience him.

All three career wins have come over the minimum trip. Below form in two runs this year though and still above his last winning handicap mark; hard to fancy.

Won three times for David O'Meara but has been below form in three starts for his new yard. A return to quicker conditions could suit but has a bit to prove at present.

C&D winner here back in 2017. Just got his head in front once last year at Musselburgh but back on his last winning handicap mark and has been running okay in defeat so far this campaign; live each-way claims.

Ran okay in three starts on AW this winter but hasn't won since January 2018 and it's further back to 2017 for last turf success. Still 2lb above that winning turf mark and entitled to need the run on return here.

Worked his way down to a nice mark and got his head in front at Hamilton (5f, soft) earlier this month. Followed that with an excellent second of 22 here last time (6f) and he's a live player on current form provided he handles quicker conditions.

Got his head back in front in a 15 runner handicap at Beverley earlier in the campaign. While he's a previous C&D winner from a much higher handicap mark, he hardly looks straightforward and was well beaten here last time.

Won twice on fast ground towards the back end of last year for previous yard and going well in defeat on his last couple of runs, particularly at Newmarket last time out. This yard can improve sprinters from others yard and he's a live player here.

Consistent on AW this winter and he's at least as effective on turf. The main concern would be that he hasn't won from a mark this high since 2016 but he goes well on this ground and can't be entirely ruled out.

In good form towards the back end of last season and got his head back in front at Ripon earlier this campaign. Has failed to build on that in two runs since and possibly a shade high in the handicap for a race this competitive.

Gets his favoured fast ground here and bounced back to form at Beverley when springing a 33/1 surprise in April. Too bad to be true last time and while he's not particularly consistent, he's back on a nice mark as a result; each-way player.

Just one win since 2017 and his very best efforts have come on soft ground. Well handicapped but merely ticking along this season and hasn't really shaped like a win is imminent.

Forecasts

Fendale (7/1), Lomu (7/1), Nibras Again (8/1), Roman River (8/1), Gin In The Inn (8/1), Sheepscar Lad (10/1), East Street Revue (10/1), Music Society (10/1), Excessable (12/1), Boom The Groom (12/1), Line Of Reason (16/1), War Whisper (16/1), Musharrif (16/1), Poyle Vinnie (16/1), Consequences (16/1), Captain Colby (25/1), Rosina (25/1), Secretinthepark (50/1), Pea Shooter (50/1)

Verdict

Paul Midgley is a trainer who does well with his sprinters and he hasn't had NIBRAS AGAIN all that long. The five-year-old has been in good form of late and gets his optimum trip/conditions here. Tim Easterby is another trainer with a strong hand in this event and course and distance winner Excessable looks his best chance this year. Secretinthepark is still well-handicapped despite a big priced win earlier in the season and he may be able to bounce back from a poor showing last time out.
