Well-bred son of 2012 Derby winner Camelot. Unable to land a blow when seventh of eight on debut at Yarmouth (6f, good to firm) but was hampered at a crucial stage. Pedigree suggests the step up in trip will be no problem and is worth considering.

Garswood colt who is a half-brother to several winners between 1m and 1m2f. Looks to be trainer's first string on jockey bookings but yard are 2-103 with juveniles in recent years. Best watched on debut.

12/1
Toronado colt out whose dam was a useful performer between 5f and 1m in Scandinavia. £85,000 purchase as a yearling and is an interesting contender on debut for yard who won this race last year.

Exceed and Excel Colt who finished a creditable fifth of 12 on debut behind another useful Godolphin performer at Yarmouth (7f, good to firm) last month. Ran quite green that day but stayed on nicely and should have more to offer this time.

4/1
€240,000 yearling purchase who is out of a top class sire and a mare who won over 1m2f in France. Trip may be on the sharp side but interesting contender for trainer who saddled a two-year-old Royal Ascot winner on Thursday.

4/6
Son of Triple Crown winner who sets the standard after finishing a promising fourth on debut at Doncaster (6f) earlier this month. Step up in trip by a furlong is a positive and is the one to beat on his second start.

50/1
Nathaniel colt who finished towards the rear on debut at Yarmouth (7f, good to firm) which Mass Media finished in fifth in. This is a stronger race and others much preferred.

Forecasts

Saqqara King (4/6), Moolhim (4/1), Mass Media (9/2), Arthur's Court (10/1), Game Over (12/1), Dulas (12/1), Selsey Sizzler (50/1), Archie Bear (50/1), Astroman (100/1)

Verdict

This looks to be one of the stronger two-year-old novice races of the season so far and includes some fascinating newcomers, most notably Game Over and Moolhim who are likely to improve considerably from this contest. Mass Media caught the eye on his first racecourse start and will be more streetwise for this, but the regally-bred SAQQARA KING sets the standard. He will relish the step up in trip and can take this race on his way towards loftier targets throughout the season.
  1. Saqqara King
  2. Mass Media
  3. Moolhim
