Winless since ending 2017 and stating 2018 in good form (two of his five C&D wins coming in that period); below form on his return to action last time over C&D. Entitled to need that start he's back on his last winning mark.
Ran badly on his last start having been in a good period of form (as was his stable) prior to that highlighted by a 5f Chelmsford win (off 1lb higher). Never been out of the first three over 5f (helped force a strong pace at 6f last time); chance.
Yet to prove that he can act on this surface (0-4 here) and looks happier on Tapeta/Fibresand with his six AW wins coming on those two surfaces. Last two starts on those particular surfaces have seen him perform poorly; can only be watched for now.
Took a step back in the right direction when being placed for the first time since she won on her last juvenile start at Brighton (5f) earlier in the week (given a chance by the handicapper). Has to back that up off a very short turnaround.
Speedy handicapper who isn't the force of old; approaching the veteran stage now. Showed his best form this year on his return run for this yard over C&D; hasn't been able to build on that in three starts since; well weighted if finding some spark.
Lightly-raced sort who makes her handicap debut for a yard that are well-known for getting the best out of sprinters. Not seen for a year but had looked the sort who might be able to make an upward transition in handicaps; market to prove the key.
One of the pace angles in the race who showed much improved form back over 5f on the AW last time (given a positive ride). Threatened to cause a shock (was 50-1) having not won a race before; has to now prove she can back that run up.
Six-time C&D winner who returned to form (ending a long losing run) over C&D in January off a basement mark. 3lb out of the weights now life hasn't been easy of late and he appears to be building another losing run.
Last two wins have come over C&D (all wins at 5f); one of those C&D wins coming in this race last year of this mark (forced to run from 3lb out of the weights now). Wide draw doesn't help with his forcing run style; tough task to repeat his win.
Respectable run last time when returning from a break/wind op at Brighton; expected to come on from that run. 5lb out of the weights however which sets this three-time C&D winner a tougher task than he requires.
Forecasts
Time To Reason (3/1), Exceedingly Diva (7/2), Come On Dave (5/1), L'Age D'Or (6/1), Brogans Bay (7/1), Archimedes (8/1), Roundabout Magic (10/1), Hurricane Alert (16/1), Pharoh Jake (16/1), Ask The Guru (25/1)
Last year’s winner Hurricane Alert faces a much stiffer task this time around and although he’s a dual C&D winner like the others with that epithet he doesn’t make much appeal apart from Roundabout Magic who has slid back down to his last winning mark. Time To Reason has proved to be a steady performer of late and he can be partially forgiven his poor start last time as he got involved in an early pace duel. Brogans Bay was helped by positive tactics last time and he’s well drawn to repeat that scenario which would make him of interest. It’s the handicap newcomer L'AGE D'OR who is of most interest; she may not have been easy to train but connections appear to have persevered for a reason.
- L'Age D'Or
- Brogans Bay
- Roundabout Magic
