Lydiate Lady26
Age: 7|  Weight: 9-9| J: Robert Dodsworth(7)| T: E J Alston| OR:  62| CD
7/1
Has a winning mentality instilled (8-51) and is expected to make her presence felt with conditions favourable from a mark which is 8lb lower than when winning over C&D (soft) in April 2018.

Point Of Woodsp8
Age: 6|  Weight: 9-7| J: Ellie Mackenzie(7)| T: Miss T Jackson| OR:  60| C| D
6/1
Course winner who finished third to Indian Pursuit (today's rival Pearl Noir second) at Thirsk last month; disappointingly was always in the rear at Beverley (5f, good to soft) last week.

Age: 6|  Weight: 9-5| J: D Nolan| T: P T Midgley| OR:  58| D

Won over 5f at Southwell earlier this year but it's difficult to be positive about either of his more recent efforts on turf; is swiftly bypassed for the moment until he returns to form.

Piazonb64
Age: 8|  Weight: 9-4| J: Ben Robinson(3)| T: Julia Brooke| OR:  57| D

The recent rain could well suit this 8yo who has shown consistent form on Fibresand at Southwell during the winter (1324326); just 1lb higher than when beating Honey GG by ½L in November; place claims.

Horse silk
Pearl Noirb8
Age: 9|  Weight: 9-1| J: Kieran Schofield(7)| T: S Dixon| OR:  54| CD
7/1
Front-runner who thrives on his racing at this track (a dual C&D scorer); 1lb lower than finishing second (just in front of today's rival Point Of Woods) at Thirsk last month; trainer also saddles Optimickstickhill.

Horse silk
Raffle King15
Age: 5|  Weight: 8-13| J: S A Gray| T: Mrs R Carr| OR:  52
17/2
Longstanding maiden who continues to slide down the handicap; arguably has shown his better form on the AW; not the solution.

Funkadelic20
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-11| J: A Mullen| T: B Haslam| OR:  50| D
8/1
Possible that he's flattered by a recent third to Highly Focussed at Hamilton (5f, good to firm), although it's also considered that he's potentially found a level/mark from which he can compete more effectively; place chance.

Horse silk
Mitchumv9
Age: 10|  Weight: 8-8| J: Paula Muir(5)| T: R E Barr| OR:  47| D
14/1
Out of sorts veteran who could feasibly be revitalised by these softer conditions, although you'd be considered to be a very brave soul if electing to back that opinion up with hard earned capital.
9

Horse silk
Foxy Boyt18
Age: 5|  Weight: 8-7| J: A Elliott| T: Rebecca Bastiman| OR:  46| D
20/1
Difficult to consider as a realistic contender having shown only modest from since a January AW win (5f, Wolverhampton); trainer now elects to try a tongue-tie.

(7)
Horse silk
Racquetp15
Age: 6|  Weight: 8-7| J: P Hanagan| T: Mrs R Carr| OR:  46| D
10/1
A five-time winner who competes from a career low handicap mark; weakened to finish amongst the back markers at Ayr (6f, good to firm) latest; does handle cut.

(6)
Horse silk
Kodimoorp20
Age: 6|  Weight: 8-7| J: Connor Murtagh(5)| T: M Walford| OR:  45| D
16/1
This race represents just his third start for Mark Walford (formerly with Chris Kellett); finished behind today's rival Funkadelic at Hamilton (5f, good to firm) latest.

Horse silk
Optimickstickhillb8
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-7| J: K T O'Neill| T: S Dixon| OR:  45| D
11/2
Poor win ratio (1-21), although very much caught the eye with a power packed late thrust (fourth) at Beverley last week; soft ground wouldn't be a concern; stablemate of Pearl Noir.
13
(13)
Horse silk
Bluella69
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-7| J: Nicola Currie| T: R Brisland| OR:  45
28/1
Ten-race maiden who finished close up behind Piazon at Southwell (5f) in February, but has taken a steady backward march since; very unlikely winner.

Horse silk
Whispering Soulb150
Age: 6|  Weight: 8-7| J: Josephine Gordon| T: B P J Baugh| OR:  45| D
66/1
No win since June 2016 and when last witnessed in competitive action on the AW (January) wasn't giving off any signals that was about to change; look elsewhere with confidence.

Forecasts

Optimickstickhill (11/2), Point Of Woods (6/1), Pearl Noir (7/1), Lydiate Lady (7/1), Funkadelic (8/1), Raffle King (17/2), Racquet (10/1), Twentysvnthlancers (11/1), Mitchum (14/1), Piazon (14/1), Kodimoor (16/1), Foxy Boy (20/1), Bluella (28/1), Whispering Soul (66/1)

Verdict

A weak finale in which Scott Dixon has a couple of mildly interesting runners who possess vastly differing run styles. Course specialist Pearl Noir appreciates racing towards the fore while the blinkered grey OPTIMICKSTICKHILL will most probably be finishing with a late charge (as was the case at Beverley last week). Others to consider include the soft ground proven Lydiate Lady and the Southwell regular Piazon.
  1. Optimickstickhill
  2. Lydiate Lady
  3. Piazon
