Well-supported favourite and off the mark at the fifth time of asking at Chelmsford (1m2f; standard) at the start of the month. That was his first run in a Class 6 and his previous third to Albert Finney entitles him to plenty of respect today.

Never threatened in three maiden runs but has proved a revelation since switching to handicaps. Scored at this track on handicap debut (6f; standard) and stormed home to grab second at Beverley last time (7.5f; good). The one they all have to beat.

Not done much so far but latest effort was more like it when 5l third behind a warm favourite at Chepstow (7f; good to firm). Reproduction of that effort would be likely to see him go close in this contest but doesn't seem the most reliable.

Shed his maiden tag at the seventh attempt in good style last time at this track (7f; standard) when a well supported 11-8F. Should have no problems with the step back up to 1m and is one of the leading players.

Four runs so far this season and mark has slid 6lb since the first of those. Hasn't ran too badly the last twice though (both of those starts over 1m) and he is an interesting contender with a further 7lb offset by his apprentice jockey.

Was campaigned exclusively over 6f in six runs last year. Produced a career-best on AW debut at Newcastle (6f; standard) on final run of last season when not beaten far into sixth. Has actually been dropped 4lb over the winter. Each-way shout.

Ran moderately in some hot maidens last season. Didn't stay 1m2f on final run of that campaign (his second handicap start). Seasonal reappearance and could make presence felt in this much easier assignment.

Latest run was at the backend of last season when she finished last of eleven at Kempton (7f; standard to slow). Makes handicap debut on seasonal return and although she hasn't achieved much so far, her trainer excels with these types. Respected.

Three-race maiden who has never threatened in races run over trips varying from 6f-7f. This is more realistic and she is likely to enjoy a lot of success at this level as the season goes on. Makes handicap debut off a fair mark and should go close.

Has won twice at this track in the past but both of those wins came over 6f. Has tried 1m and 1m1f the last twice, making no impression in either of those runs. Interesting that connections are persevering with running him over this trip.

Gained a first career success when scoring over this C&D just 20 days ago. Raised just 3lb victory and although the stable form is a little bi concerning, she is one of only a handful in this with recent winning form to her name.

Makes her debut over a 1m today. Last seen at this venue 29 days ago when a fair fifth behind Peruvian Summer (7f; standard). Hard to see her reversing that form, but she could get closer if improving for the step up in trip. Place claims at best.

Six-race maiden who finished last season a well-beaten ninth of 10 in a Class 6 handicap at Wolverhampton (1m1f; standard). Makes first start for 187 days and very hard to have any confidence in this filly who is not progressing at all.

Forecasts

Termonator (5/2), Peruvian Summer (4/1), Crazy Spin (5/1), Spirit Of Angel (8/1), Monsieur Piquer (11/1), Dark Glory (12/1), Geography Teacher (16/1), Ramatuelle (20/1), Amelia R (20/1), Biscuit Queen (22/1), Big Ian (33/1), Luna Princess (40/1), Ocean Reach (40/1)

Verdict

Spirit Of Angel made the drop down to Class 6 company a successful one when breaking his duck by a neck. He is sure to progress now and holds some of the better form in this contest but preference is for the vastly improving TERMONATOR. He won here in April over 6f and went close at Beverley last time when having to come from quite far back. The step up to 1m looks sure to suit and he is hard to oppose on what is just his third start in a handicap. Big Ian can run well as he steps into calmer waters after contesting some decent two-year-old maidens last season.

  3. Big Ian
