Runner up off this mark at Musselburgh (5f, good) on his penultimate start, but is without a win since scoring on the Polytrack at Kempton in October 2017; best on a sound surface.

C&D winner (July 2017) who is versatile in terms of conditions but equally has done plenty of his winning with cut underfoot; 2lb lower than when finishing 2½L third to Pennsylvania Dutch at Thirsk (6f, good) on his penultimate start.

Placed on three occasions so far in 2019, including when finishing just under 3L third to Abel Handy (Foxy Forever second) at Musselburgh (5f, good); beaten favourite at Wetherby latest - race came too quickly?

A six-time career winner (mainly over 5f on good to firm ground); now rated 4lb lower than when beating Foxtrot Knight by 4½L at Haydock last July; in the thick of things behind Musharrif at Ripon (fourth) on Sunday.

Both of his wins have come at sharp tracks (Chester & Musselburgh) but that's merely coincidental as he was also spotted making late headway when finishing runner up to Desert Ace over C&D (good) in September; placed on 2017 & 2018 comeback runs.

Made all, and ran on well to score (under tonight's rider) by 3¼L at Ripon on Sunday (Dapper Man fourth); escapes a penalty for that success and is also a previous C&D winner (October 2018); must figure very high on any shortlist.

A broadly consistent filly who sits near enough her last winning mark (Lingfield); twice placed on turf already in 2019, including when finishing 1½L third to Dandy's Beano at Thirsk latest. (5f fillies' handicap, good to soft)

Best over 6f (a three-time winner at that trip); 1lb higher than when winning at Ripon last September (6f, good); finished 8th of 9 on recent seasonal reappearance at Wetherby (5½f); needs much more.

5/1
Prominent racing Pontefract regular (4,5,4,4,2,1,0,2,1,2,7,2,6) who is feasibly handicapped, although best suited by give underfoot; beaten a head by Musharrif (on similar terms) over C&D last October; cheekpieces introduced for the first time.

3lb higher than when beating Kibaar by 1¼L over C&D (good to firm) last month; kept busy since without necessarily holding her form; certainly couldn't be totally discounted, albeit others are preferred.

Suitcase 'n' Taxi39
Age: 5|  Weight: 8-12| J: Jason Hart| T: T D Easterby| OR:  68| C| D
33/1
Stablemate of Computable; course winner (6f); fair to say that his last couple of visits to this track haven't gone at all well - appears to have issues with/in the stalls; handicap mark steadily falling (a positive result of poor form).

Forecasts

Musharrif (9/2), Van Gerwen (5/1), Amazing Grazing (11/2), Foxy Forever (6/1), Dapper Man (13/2), Sheepscar Lad (9/1), Another Angel (12/1), Case Key (12/1), Socialites Red (14/1), Gold Stone (14/1), Computable (28/1), Suitcase 'n' Taxi (33/1)

Verdict

Past C&D winner MUSHARRIF demonstrated his current rude health when making all to take a 5f Ripon apprentices' handicap on Sunday by 3¼L, with re-opposing rival Dapper Man in behind (fourth). He escapes a penalty for that decisive win, and is again well drawn to attack from a mid berth in stall 6. Obviously, there'll be little in the way of value at his projected odds, but he does rate as the likeliest winner. In terms of a possible better priced each-way alternative, the Tim Easterby-trained Computable is noteworthy on his seasonal reappearance, having been placed on his return to action in each of the past two years (Thirsk).
  1. Musharrif
  2. Sheepscar Lad
  3. Computable
