Consistent but is becoming frustrating to follow. Has been cut some slack by the assessor and might have more to offer over the trip but hasn't made much progress so far this season.

Goes well here and already has two wins over C&D to his name. Still 4lb above the last winning mark though and needs to better the effort he posted on his reappearance earlier this month.

Better over hurdles than on the Flat so far and yet to make the most of a plummeting handicap mark. Others are more convincing at this stage.

Didn't make much of an impact for Brian Meehan last year but did show signs of ability on a couple of occasions. His current yard no doubt has an eye on a hurdling career in due course and this looks a fair point to assess where to go from here.

Back in trip after fading over 2m at Wolverhampton last month; previous efforts over middle distances were better but the filly still has a bit to prove on the balance of form.

Finished a close third over C&D at the start of this month and respected from a 1lb lower mark this time. Possible he's still got a bit of improvement in him over this trip; worth a betting check.

Swapped hands for €11,000 at the Goffs November sales and not over faced for his stable/British debut run. The rider's claim is a handy tool and it would be no surprise to see the gelding make a bold bid. Another to keep in mind if he's supported.

Has a course win to his name and is on a reasonably attractive mark. Needs to banish the memory of a string of modest efforts over hurdles of late but dangerous to dismiss out of hand.

Knocking on the door over hurdles and can gain a confidence booster if she adapts to racing on the Flat again. 4lb below her last winning mark in this sphere and not much to find to play the lead role in a modest contest.

Stablemate of Forsee who is on a handy mark - he won from a 2lb higher rating at Newbury last June - but has been out of action since last winter. Might just be sharper for the run.

Well beaten on his return to action when down the field at Southwell last month; dropping in the rating but still 4lb above his last winning mark. Others more appealing betting propositions.

Snippets of decent form on the AW last winter and ran well from a 1lb higher mark on his return at Salisbury earlier in the month. 0-15 on turf but can go close to breaking his duck if running to his best.

Races in cheekpieces no doubt in the hope that he can pull something out of the fire; was well beaten at Wolverhampton last month on his return after a wind operation and looks a risky option now.

Verdict

POWERFUL SOCIETY has been running well over hurdles lately and has been found a decent opening to pitch his skills back on the Flat. The gelding is well treated in comparison to the pick of his old form and looks worth another throw of the dice in a modest event like this. Ascot Day acquitted himself admirably here last time out and can go close again if in the same frame of mind; Born To Frolic and Rahmah are a couple of others with solid enough claims to merit consideration and they complete the shortlist.
