The only C&D winner in the field he reacted well to the change of headgear (first-time blinkers) when showing improved form on his Fibresand debut. Not disgraced last time off this mark when beaten by some less-exposed sorts; has claims still.

First try on Fibresand having been beaten in a turf seller at Leicester over 6f last time. Mark has dropped to a workable one back in handicap company but often spoils her chance with a slow start; needs to show more than last time.

Another Fibresand debutant he could given a chance if reproducing his second at Chelmsford over this trip (wore first-time visor/tongue-tie); started 2-1 favourite. Below form back on turf last time over 6f, not without a chance.

Lightly-raced so far having had just a couple of efforts in handicaps; well held on both of them although she would have needed the run last week at Windsor (second turf run). May give a decent account if taking to this surface off a career-low mark.

One of eight making their Fibresand debuts and hopes pinned on a change of surface bringing about some improvement (has looked limited so far). Ran over 6f last time with cheekpieces on again (retained here); appeal is minimal.

Stable yet to really fire this season and she's shown next to nothing in form terms as yet including on her handicap debut at Redcar last time over 6f. Back to 5f now on a different surface but hard to fashion a case for her.

Horses from this yard have been known to improve for a switch to this surface (this is his debut on Fibresand); return from a long absence. Wasn't knocked about on his handicap debut (race didn't go his way); needs a positive market move to interest.

Poor form so far in three minor events (yard are in cracking form and have a good record here); 2-6 with three-year-old handicap debutantes. Would hardly be the biggest surprise to see her step forward going handicapping (had one run on Fibresand).

Handicap/Fibresand debutante who on the evidence so far (early days) looks fairly limited but could step forward going handicapping on this surface (sire has a good near 20% strike-rate on the surface); needs to settle better, not to be ignored.

Forecasts

Gunnabedun (7/4), Secret Picnic (7/2), Lysander Belle (6/1), Laura's Legacy (8/1), Newgate Angel (8/1), Carla Koala (14/1), Raquelle (16/1), Purely Prosecco (25/1), Little Tipple (25/1), Remission (50/1)

Verdict

The second three-year-old only handicap on the card and it’s as complex as the first one with only two of the runners having been here before. That could well hand Gunnabedun a previous C&D winner an advantage especially as return to 5f is likely to suit. But there are a few lurking in the wins here such as LAURA’S LEGACY who wouldn’t appeal on bare form but would on the form of her yard and their record here plus this will be her handicap debut. Secret Picnic could pose a threat if he takes to this surface with the Derek Shaw pair Remission and Purely Prosecco of interest if there is market interest.
  1. Laura's Legacy
  2. Gunnabedun
  3. Purely Prosecco
