Defending a very long losing run having become a disappointing sort who has slipped markedly in the handicap. Showed some glimmers of his old self throughout 2018 but never really capitalised on them; back from an absence but hard to trust.

Plenty of C&D form to his name but has only scored once here; three wins all coming at 5f. Took a step in the right direction before Christmas (Southwell, 5f) but has failed dismally to build on that display; well handicapped on his old form.

Fair handicapper at best but going through a barren spell at the moment (last win June 2017). Inconsistency blighted his time last year and he's starting to look like one that is hard to trust; recent AW return over 5f lacked any fluency.

Six wins to his name but they have all come on the AW (not seen on the turf since the middle of 2017). Shaped well prior to the most recent win dropped back to 6f (from 1m) off a 6lb higher mark; can he live up to his AW form back on turf.

Lightly-raced sort who scored on his handicap debut over 6f (Newcastle) before failing over the same C&D to cope with a 5lb rise (ran to the same level as his win). Qualified for handicaps on turf; may enjoy a return to the surface, can start slowly.

Trainer's first runner who shaped well for him on debut (previously with David Barron); put up a creditable performance having slipped in the weights over 5f. Type to spring back to life off this mark although he is 0-2 over 6f; note a market move.

Came good on his final run of 2018; had the run of the race over 6f at Newcastle off a 1lb lower mark. Has run to just below that level in three starts this year at 6f-7f all at Newcastle; slightly more needed to get involved here; looks well drawn.

Well below form on her last two starts having shown some promise in the run prior to those two flops. Both wins have come on the AW (Tapeta) back in 2017; didn't look straightforward when last seen on turf; likes to force the pace.

Appeared to be on the way back on his seasonal reappearance taking the runner-up slot over 6f at Wolverhampton. Not in the same form the last twice though over the same C&D (selling company last time); underlining his inconsistent nature.

Fair maiden who hasn't really sparkled for this yard yet although he did run well enough on his penultimate start over 7f at Newcastle. Well below form last time over the same C&D and his turf form last year off higher marks didn't really impress.

Back down to the same mark as he last won off over 7f at Catterick in the summer on a sound surface. Ran with credit for the most part after that over the same trip; would have needed the run on stable debut, trip looks on the short side.

Twice a C&D winner who went through 2018 without winning; finds himself really well handicapped on his old form (17lb below last winning mark). Should be sharper for a recent Fibresand run; interesting from a good draw, often travels well.

Always shown her best form on turf (won three time over 6f in 2018) stepping up on her AW reappearance at Musselburgh (5f) last time. Not at all knocked around over a trip that looks sharp for her these days, respected off this mark back over 6f.

Frustrating sort who took ages to get off the mark but has won four times since although his latest two wins have come on a softer surface. Not in bad form when last seen at the end of turf season; no great record fresh though, may need this.

Hit a purple patch when with Mick Channon as a juvenile (won four races); failed to score since failing to cope with an inflated mark. Stepped back in the right direction last time (second run back from wind op); ought to be capable off this mark.

Form over C&D reads 53038; done all his winning on Tapeta at Newcastle at up to 7f, not seen on turf since finishing eighth over C&D. Shaped as though he was back in form last time over 7f (travelled well); needs to produce his AW form on turf.

Quick filly who was shaping well prior to delivering on that promise when last seen at Catterick over 5f off 3lb lower (won with a bit in hand). Trainer won this last year with a filly on debut; needs to fully convince over 6f but not one to ignore.

Verdict

An enigma wrapped up in a riddle for backers to solve in the getting-out stakes with Boudica Bay for last year’s winning trainer\jockey combination being one for the shortlist if this speedy filly is as effective over 6f. Plenty are well handicapped on their old form and would be dangerous if springing back to life My Name Is Rio and dual C&D winner (and well drawn) MESHARDAL amongst them with Ruth Carr’s charge the suggestion after a recent tune-up run. Dangers abound though with Milton Road, Jessie Allan and Miracle Garden all capable of running well in a complex finale.
