On a competitive mark based on some form and has left Alan King to join a trainer who does well with others' cast-offs, so check the market for clues.
C&D winner last April on good to soft. Ran well again on the same ground here in October, when also on the same mark. Returns from six months off and clearly has the ability to have a say if able to cope with faster ground.
Couldn't win in 13 starts for Ed Dunlop, but went very close on AW from 1lb higher. Changed hands for 22,000gns in the autumn, and a market check is advised on his debut for this stable.
Yet to win beyond 7f, so definite stamina concerns over this stiff mile, when taking previous attempts into account. Conditions not a problem, and would only be of real interest if the market vibes are strong on his first run since wind surgery.
Multiple winner, including here over 1m2f, but all his best form has been on softer ground, which has to be a concern.
Triple winner over this trip in the second half of last year. 4lb higher than the latest of those, so more needed, and his record after a break could be better.
Four-time turf winner, but all on good ground or slower. Has enjoyed a consistent winter in the AW. Has won when fresh and can't be ruled out from this mark.
C&D winner who lost form towards the end of 2018. Returns fresh, but his record after a break is not the most encouraging.
Hasn't won since 2015, but his last two AW runs have been decent and from a career-low mark, he has his best chance for some time of another success.
Last win came from 6lb lower on AW at Chelmsford in November. Has run well in half of his six subsequent races, including from this mark. Not got the best of draws here, but still wouldn't write him off.
Has shown plenty of competitive form in defeat from higher marks on the AW over the winter, but this trip looked inadequate last time. Stiffer track could help, but still has a bit to prove over 1m.
Has been seen only five times on turf, where he remains a maiden (has won once on AW). Yet to make the frame in this sphere and others are preferred.
Forecasts
Zodiakos (10/3), Mr Carbonator (11/2), Steal The Scene (7/1), Beverley Bullet (15/2), Jo's Girl (8/1), Casement (10/1), Hitman (10/1), Agar's Plough (12/1), Ascot Week (16/1), Squire (16/1), Im Dapper Too (25/1), Hediddodinthe (66/1)
Another modest affair, where C&D winner Jo's Girl has claims, but does have it to prove on fast ground, while Squire is of interest after some competitive AW efforts. Zodiakos could come into the equation, while Agar's Plough and CASEMENT should both be checked in the market on respective stable debuts. A chance is taken on the latter, who has his first start for a trainer that has a good record of improving those he takes from others.
- Casement
- Zodiakos
- Squire
