Took a while to break her duck but has made herself at home on this demanding surface with back-to-back wins (7f-1m) in February; turned over latest (5/4f) and 1lb higher today; Theodore Ladd is 2-2 aboard.

Southwell regular; just 1lb higher than when beating Arriba De Toda by a head over C&D in January; reasonably solid since despite twice seeing the tail-end of today's re-opposing rival Dolly Dupree.

Took a small step forward when beaten 1L (second) by Jazz Legend over 6f here in March, but in truth that form doesn't exactly stand up to close scrutiny; back up in trip from the same handicap mark (52).

Act Of Magic42
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-12| J: K T O'Neill| T: M Moubarak| OR:  51
5/2
Irish import; shaped okay on stable/handicap debut at Wolverhampton (1m+) in January when finishing just over 2L fifth of 12 to Um Shama; never involved at this track (1m) latest; drop back in trip looks far from ideal.

Singe Du Nordp36
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-11| J: Faye McManoman(5)| T: N Tinkler| OR:  50
9/1
Disqualified after beating Fenjal by a nose over 1m here in December; unable to gain compensation since and remains a maiden accordingly (0-13); still sits 4lb above that 'winning' mark.

Lincoln Red154
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-10| J: Rachel Richardson| T: Olly Williams| OR:  49
16/1
Eight-race maiden; signs of limited progress last autumn when twice in the minor money on Tapeta at Newcastle (6f-7f); off for 154 days since, and it remains to be seen if he can continue that progress or not on Fibresand (debut).

Forecasts

Act Of Magic (5/2), Dolly Dupree (9/2), Sylviacliffs (6/1), Your Mothers' Eyes (6/1), Singe Du Nord (9/1), Peruvian Summer (10/1), Hua Hin (14/1), Lincoln Red (16/1), Thedevilinneville (20/1), Jungle Warfare (20/1), Slaithwaite (20/1), Tanzerin (25/1), Zalmi Angel (50/1), Seafaring Girl (66/1)

Verdict

A low-key opener in which previous Southwell form (or solid form in general) is in very short supply. Therefore, despite being turned over in a three-runner affair in early March, the logical choice is the dual course winner DOLLY DUPREE. She's reunited with the 5lb claimer Theodore Ladd (2-2 aboard), and has twice come out on top of today's rival Sylviacliffs in the past. Others with scope to do better include Your Mothers' Eyes and Act of Magic, although the drop back in trip doesn't appear to be a perfect match for the latter.
  1. Dolly Dupree
  2. Your Mothers' Eyes
  3. Sylviacliffs
