Not at his sharpest at Wolverhampton (7f) latest, but in solid form prior to that run and with a strong overall AW strike-rate (8-33); 5lb higher than when beating Epeius by ½L over C&D (Class 5) in November.
Stronger on the AW (2-3) than on turf (0-9); probably a shade high in the weights now and although a dual course winner (5f-6f), she was a well beaten third over C&D latest (on her comeback run).
Her sole win came in what was effectively a match at Hamilton in August (6f, good) and she's not really threatened another since, including in claimers; 2lb lower than when finishing 4½L fifth of 12 at Wolverhampton (6f) last month.
Running consistently well over C&D in recent weeks, narrowly gaining his revenge on Breathoffreshair when edging out that rival (and Tadaany) by a short-head latest; 2lb higher in the weights and should go very close again.
11-race maiden; remains unexposed on the AW (0-1) and hasn't done too much racing for Marjorie Fife (cost £8,000 out of a Leicester seller in July); handicap mark falling and quite possibly fresh from a 99 day absence.
Attractively weighted based upon her peak form with no concerns about track or trip; her achilles heel comes via her habit of dwelling at the gates, which consequently places her on the back foot; of interest if breaking on terms.
1-15 on the AW (6f Wolverhampton); has proved herself as competitive from this kind of handicap mark in the past. However, she can only be expected to improve for her first start since April.
Claims from this vastly reduced mark based upon the pick of her nursery efforts for previous handler Charles Hills (including on the AW); 0-7 for Les Eyre, but still early days post wind surgery and a more experienced rider now takes the mount.
Beaten a neck by Avenue of Stars on her penultimate start over C&D in August, and only 2lb higher tonight; no major surprise if she's on the premises with the benefit of a recent run under her belt.
Has essentially become somewhat of a disappointment since mid-summer, falling 9lb in the weights and also turning in a lacklustre showing over C&D latest; strongest at the minimum trip.
Obvious concerns about his resolution, which again surfaced when beaten in a three-way tussle with Dandy Highwayman and Breathoffreshair over C&D latest; place claims, but no more; 0-11 on the AW.
Showed early pace on return to the AW (7f) recently and should be suited by dropping back in trip; that said, is without a win for 16 months and certainly not overly convincing.
16-race maiden; there or thereabouts on a couple of occasions at this track (7f-1m) of late; Class 6 & 7 contests are certainly her level of competition, but surely debatable as to whether or not she'll cope with dropping right back in trip.
12-race maiden; 150/1 when an always behind last of 13 over 5f here on Saturday; no conceivable chance.
Forecasts
Tadaany (5/1), Lucky Lodge (11/2), Grise Lightning (6/1), Dandy Highwayman (13/2), Santafiora (15/2), Poppy In The Wind (8/1), Betty Grable (11/1), Cuppacoco (11/1), Queen Of Kalahari (12/1), Scenery (18/1), Young Tiger (25/1), Dodgy Bob (28/1), Thorntoun Lady (33/1), Sandstream (150/1)
A couple of speculative options include Queen Of Kalahari and the well handicapped, albeit habitual dwelling Poppy In The Wind. However, playing it safer the short-list of most likely winners includes Lucky Lodge, Santafiora and DANDY HIGHWAYMAN. Trainer Ollie Pears has his relatively small string in fine fettle at present, so the nod goes to his last time out C&D winner who is once more expected to have the measure of the rather difficult Tadaany.
- Dandy Highwayman
- Lucky Lodge
- Poppy In The Wind
