Beaten a long way in a pair of bumpers separated by a break of 12 weeks and has shown very little so far. Hard to think that he'll be taking a hand in this based on that form.

Fair on the Flat although he's not won since 2016 and has looked rather laboured this year failing to fire on most starts. Flattered to finish as close as he did (beaten 17L) on his hurdles debut over C&D; others make more appeal.
Well towards the head of the market on his sole run so far in a Perth bumper in the spring; started 7-2. Failed to live up to his billing (finished 5th of 13) but showed that there was something to work on; makes hurdles debut with better expected.

Stayer on the Flat with wins at up to 1m6f and returned to something like his best when winning at Redcar when last seen; caused a 40-1 shock. Relished the soft ground there and likely to play a prominent role here on his hurdles debut.

Capable of some fair form on the Flat although his only win came in 1m Fibresand claimer for Marco Botti. Didn't show much on the Flat for this stable and his two hurdles runs have failed to excite; needs to hurdle far better.

Makes his debut over hurdles for this yard have previously been with Sally Haynes on the Flat (fair maiden) but does have a significant break to overcome. May well need the experience and one for the future in this sphere.

Favourite in his only bumper and beaten at odds-on in a muddling race on the AW surface (still shaped well enough). Looked open to further improvement on his hurdles debut at Fakenham finishing 3rd to a very decent prospect who has won again.

May well be one of the stable lesser lights having finished 2nd on his only point-to-point start (btn 20L) and yet to show much over hurdles having been well beaten in all three starts. Chaser on looks and will be better in that sphere or handicaps.

Only has one win to show for her Flat exploits with a couple of yards at up to 1m2f. May have needed the run on her hurdles debut at Market Rasen although she was held up well off the pace and looks capable of better in time.

Forecasts

The Very Thing (11/8), Lopes Dancer (2/1), Imperial Acolyte (5/1), Dew Pond (8/1), Drumochter (14/1), Steccando (20/1), Up The Drive (20/1), Regarde Moi (100/1), Darry Desbois (125/1)

Verdict

A few of the connections in this will be glad that they have missed all of the big guns that appear grouped in the first division of this novice hurdle; this being the far easier group. The experience that THE VERY THING gained behind the useful Ascot winner Didtheyleaveuoutto could well tip the scales in his favour here and he’s preferred to the well regarded Imperial Acolyte. He was well fancied at Perth on his bumper debut and should perform better having had some time to mature. Lopes Dancer is the obvious one from the Flat contingent with Drumochter and Dew Pond the pick of those at bigger prices.
  1. The Very Thing
  2. Imperial Acolyte
  3. Lopes Dancer
