Two wins already this year with his turf win coming on soft when making all at Carlisle over this trip. May have raced a bit too close to an overly strong pace last time when below his winning form; chance if back to his best.
Quirky sort who is hard to win with and often fails to finish off his races and ran a typically awkward race last time at Bath over 6f. C&D winner in the past who is way below his last winning mark but is hard to trust.
Back from wind surgery and a break he found the stamina test at 5f ideal to win under an apprentice at Doncaster in July. Has on occasions looked back in form (ran well over 5f here on penultimate start); well below form last time.
Fair sort who is 3/14 this year but now has to attempt to win off his highest mark of the year having been successful off 61 last time at Catterick (6f, soft) in an uncompetitive race. Ought to go well again but may find one or two better treated.
Fair maiden who is having just his second run for this yard having previously been with Richard Guest. Not suited by a slowly-run AW 7f last time (failed to settle) and a well-run 6f off this mark may well suit him better.
Finally capitalised on a falling mark when taking a Thirsk 6f handicap in August off a 6lb lower mark than today (still looks well treated on old form). Has run respectably since then and went well for an apprentice over 6f at Ripon last time.
On a long losing run and having his 4th run for this yard (previously with David Brown). Appeared to show something approaching his form last time at Ripon (6f, good) when finishing 4th just behind Alfie's Angel; chance on that run.
Has looked in her last few starts as though she may be coming back to form and hinted at a revival even more last time over 5f at Ayr. She's certainly well handicapped now on her old form and has won over 6f in the past; note a market move.
Yet to win a race but has twice taken the runner-up slot this year albeit those runs have taken place in a lowly grade. Didn't look to enjoy himself last time in reapplied headgear which is quickly removed here; needs others to run below par.
Took an age to win a race but has built on that win since and scored this year when dropped in the weights and encountering his favoured soft surface at Thirsk over 6f. Shaped well enough last time and won off higher marks last year.
C&D winner who has had a busy season and turned in her best effort in her August win off a mark of 53. Has run respectably without winning for the most part since then but remains above her last winning mark; others appeal more.
Softer ground and a refitted hood appeared to be the catalysts for her best effort of the year when taking a 6f amateur riders event at Windsor; penultimate start. Not in the same form next time under today's rider (5667 when riding her).
Like a few in this race has a long losing run to deal with this veteran's last win coming back in April 2017 off a 15lb higher mark. Ran respectably over C&D last time (came from a long way back); chance to snap his losing run off a lowly mark.
Lightly-raced this year (only her 4th start) but hardly looked that convincing in a C&D novice stakes last time. Drops to a career-low mark but would need to have shown more to be of interest back in handicaps.
Three wins to his name all on the AW in the first part of the year and all came over 7f at Wolverhampton; 3-49 on turf. Well below his last winning mark on the AW but of little interest on the turf these days and 2lb out of the handicap to boot.
Has failed to fire at all this season and looks out of sorts having beaten just one home when last seen over 6f (soft) at Hamilton. Not hard to give other more of a chance in this contest.
Forecasts
Cliff (11/2), Munfallet (6/1), Lucky Lodge (15/2), Operative (8/1), Social Butterfly (9/1), Avenue Of Stars (11/1), Someone Exciting (12/1), Sunstorm (12/1), Vallarta (12/1), Fink Hill (12/1), Alfie's Angel (14/1), Yorkshire Pudding (14/1), Space War (16/1), Point Of Woods (16/1), Mininggold (20/1), Knockamany Bends (100/1)
It’s rare for this contest not to be run in two divisions and that’s what we get today although the three-year-olds that took both divisions last year are sparsely represented in this heat. The best of that group looks to be Fink Hill who may be better suited by this 6f if we get a reasonable pace. Of the older brigade Vallarta has hit form of late but he now has to win off his highest mark of the year with Cliff and Alfie’s Angel two others who are capable at this level. SPACE WAR has reached the veteran stage now and on a long losing run but he’s shown flashes of his old form of late including over C&D last time and off a lowly mark he’s given the vote for one last hurrah.
- Space War
- Fink Hill
- Alfie's Angel
