Scored from 17lb higher (soft) last autumn, but after a good start this season, his form has tailed off. Drops another grade here. Any sort of revival in form would make him interesting, but hard to be confident on that front.
Dual AW winner over 1m. Turf form lacking conviction so far and well held from this mark on his last two starts. Headgear needs to have a dramatic effect.
Won a 6f Catterick maiden on soft last year and went close at Epsom two starts later from a mark of 75. Has been in recession this year until a more promising effort last time from this mark at Hamilton. A repeat effort should see him go close.
Tried to nick it from the front when going close at Catterick (7f, good to soft) last time. Still early days, unexposed and up 3lb for that. Claims.
0-23. Went close at Hamilton (1m1f, soft) last month, when on this mark. Well below that level in a seller at same venue latest. Trip looks plenty sharp enough, so has a bit to prove.
Dual Pontefract winner this time last year (both 6f, soft/heavy), the latter being from 14lb higher. On the slide for some time this season. Certainly on a workable mark again, but yet to prove as effective at trips over 6f.
Scored at Cork (7f, good) in August. Held both starts since, but could be competitive from this mark.
Nine-race maiden. Still ha time on her side and positive that her best effort came here over 1m (heavy) from 1lb higher a year ago. Entitled to need her recent reappearance and could make more impact this time.
Sole win was from 12lb higher in a Doncaster handicap (6f, good) last summer. Some of her form this season entitles her to claims from this mark, but more needed and looks more of an each-way player.
Has won over 7f on soft, but recent form leaves plenty to be desired. New headgear combination being tried, but needs huge upturn in fortunes.
Acts on soft and this trip looks just about his optimum. 4lb lower than when winning at Thirsk in the spring, but has not come close to that level of form since. More needed.
0-32, 1lb 'wrong' here and very hard to fancy.
Looked moderate in maiden company. 33-1 and beaten almost 9L on handicap debut at Down Royal last month. Still early days and worth a market check with the former champion booked.
Respectable effort on handicap debut at Ffos Las a couple of starts ago. Tailed off when tried over 1m2f at Chelmsford last time. Unexposed and also untried on ground this soft, but not written off in such a poor race.
Forecasts
Benjamin Thomas (5/1), Roaring Forties (6/1), Dawn Breaking (6/1), Lady Sonia (13/2), Song Of Summer (7/1), Rosemay (15/2), Harbour Patrol (9/1), Drover (12/1), Patrice's Wish (16/1), Medici Moon (22/1), Magical Molly Joe (28/1), Star Girl (28/1), Caledonian Gold (50/1), Palavicini Run (50/1)
Desperate stuff. Cases can be made for both Rebecca Bastiman runners here, Harbour Patrol and ROARING FORTIES and the latter may be worth chancing now dropping into this lowly grade for the first time, with conditions to suit. Benjamin Thomas makes the short-list, while Drover, Lady Sonia, Magical Molly Joe and Patrice's Wish are all of interest for one reason or another.
- Roaring Forties
- Benjamin Thomas
- Patrice's Wish
