Got his chasing career back on track last time when 2nd at Uttoxeter with the shorter trip (2m4f) looking to suit him. Now wears a visor for the first-time dropping back to a bare 2m and off a mark that is below his last winning one over hurdles.

Failed to complete on four of his last five outing and no relying on the first-time blinkers to provide a galvanising effect back to 2m. Has twice won over C&D but failed to back up a promising run last time and questions to answer now.

Has been known to produce some fair efforts over fences despite not being the most reliable. Posted a decent attempt last time when trying to make all at Stratford in a better race than this; would have claims if he can repeat that run.

Three placed efforts to his name from six tries here but has failed to complete on both his most recent outings (pulled up both times). Likes to go from the front and unlikely to get his own way up front here; something to prove.

Failed to show much in non-handicaps (given stiff tasks) when running over fences in Ireland but may well be able to do better now switched to handicaps. Tongue-tie on for the first-time and well worth check for any market support.

Alys Rock10

Scored on her debut for this yard over C&D (66/1) having been given a chance by the handicapper. Shaped well trying to follow up that run off a 4lb higher mark but did too much too soon and had nothing left; still on a decent mark.

Successful over hurdles/fences in the past for David Pipe but didn't show that much once he had left his care. Did show that there was a little ability left for this yard last time though over hurdles here but on balance others appeal more.

Yet to show much over fences so far in four attempts having only completed on a couple of occasions. Jumping needs brushing up and comes here having been pulled up last time; wore this headgear combination when last winning.

In the veteran stage now and below form in all his recent starts he generally likes to go from the front and won't have an uncontested lead here. Would be a surprise if he were good enough to lead this field for a success.

C&D winner who has been running with credit of late although he made rather hard work of getting into the frame last time (without headgear). Cheekpieces now return and he's slipped way below his last winning mark.

Fell here on his penultimate start when in the process of showing improved form. Completed at Stratford last time but didn't look in quite the same form despite grabbing third and has to cope with being 3lb out of the handicap here.

5lb out of the handicap and finished well beaten in point-to-points this year and remains with very little solid form under Rules. Well beaten over hurdles here last time and hard to recommend.

Forecasts

Samson (7/4), Heurtevent (13/2), Silent Account (8/1), Myroundorurs (8/1), Vif Argent (9/1), Alys Rock (9/1), The Yank (9/1), Hurricane Rita (16/1), Valshan Time (25/1), Accessallareas (40/1), Deise Vu (40/1), Western Dream (66/1)

Verdict

There should be a decent pace on here via a few that like to go forward with The Yank being the main one of that group and he would have claims if he could match his Stratford run last time out, he’s not the most reliable though. SAMSON has in his last few runs shown an aptitude for fences and a strong pace over this trip with a visor on for the first time may see him in a good light. Alys Rock was given an over aggressive ride last time but if she can be ridden more restraint she’s still on a mark she can win off. The dark horse of the race is Silent Account who will have more chance in handicaps having been highly tried over fences so far with a tongue-tie on for the first time.
  1. Samson
  2. Silent Account
  3. Alys Rock
