Gelded son of Foxwedge out of a Group 3 winning dam whose first three foals all won. A delayed debut and the fitting of a hood suggest issues.

Lord Shanakill filly was a 7,000 gns yearling, is a half-sister to two-year-old winner Taskeen (1m). Well held both starts, latest being eighth of nine in minor event here in April.
Acclamation half-brother to three winners. Should handle the surface but stable are not associated with winning debutants and others look more likely.

Newcomer by Beresford Stakes runner-up Domestic Fund who ended his career in Qatar. Brother to two winners in that country.

Caught the eye on debut when hampered and noted staying on hard under a considerate ride. Drop to 7f appeared not to suit last time and one to watch in handicaps over a more suitable trip.

Bated Breath colt, cost £30,000 as a yearling. Dam a Listed sprint winner and plenty of speed in his pedigree. Given a nice introduction at Goodwood a year ago and yard's runners have been going well.

Cost just 7,000 gns and unraced for Richard Hannon before being sent off at huge odds and subsequently well beaten on both starts.

65,000 gns Dark Angel colt out of a Listed placed 6f-7f winner. Not an ideal draw for a newcomer but the jockey booking is notable.

Full-sister to four-time sprint winner Black Isle Boy. Fairly drawn but doubtful she will be forward enough on debut to trouble some of these.

Forecasts

Margub (1/1), Good Effort (9/4), Greaves (3/1), Iron Dove (4/1), Make Haste Slowly (6/1), Domestic Way (12/1), Eternal Destiny (12/1), Soar Above (14/1), Distant Applause (33/1), Petite Fleur (33/1), Foxy Feelin (50/1), Shanakill Star (100/1)

Verdict

This may not be the strongest of novice events for the circuit and Simon Crisford may have found a nice introductory race for Iron Dove. The market will tell us more and it is felt that GOOD EFFORT has achieved enough to warrant support. The son of Shamardal stepped up last time when having plenty of use made of him and the drop to 7f seems a sensible move. Margub appeals most of the rest.
