Urban Icon15
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-8| J: Tom Marquand| T: R Hannon| D
6/5
Cittyscape colt who cost £23,000 at Ascot sales last year and is a half-brother to the speedy Flying Foxy. Well backed, he made a fine start to his career when winning well on debut at Windsor. Sound claims under his penalty.

(6)
Horse silk
5/1
Quiet debut at Newmarket, but showed big improvement to finish second of 14 at Leicester recently. Getting his act together and promises to take another step forward.
7
(3)
Horse silk
7/2
Colt by Bungle Inthejungle, a first-season sire who is already making his mark. Cost 14,000 gns this year and although his stable also saddles previous winner Certain Lad, he is worth noting in the betting.
8
(4)
Horse silk
Even Keel15
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-0| J: Rob Hornby| T: J G Portman
7/1
Born To Sea colt who ran well to chase home Urban Icon on debut with Society Shock behind. Reopposes on 6lb better terms, but has 3½L to make up.
9
(7)
Horse silk
50/1
Compton Place colt who cost 30,000 gns this year and is a half-brother to a winner in Italy. Probably best watched on debut unless the market speaks in his favour.
10
(2)
Horse silk
66/1
Colt by Dandy Man who fetched £24,000 as a yearling and is from the family of Irish Oaks winner Give Thanks. Stable is having a quiet time and this debut experience will probably be needed.

(15)
Horse silk
Cobweb Catcher12
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-12| J: S Donohoe| T: R Spencer
25/1
Son of Swiss Spirit who is a half-brother to sprint winner Sweet Pursuit. Only limited promise on debut at Chelmsford and needs to show significant improvement.
12
(17)
Horse silk
Greyzee15
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-12| J: William Carson| T: B R Millman
100/1
Down the field in both starts at Windsor. Looks one for nurseries further down the line and is readily opposed.
13
(13)
Horse silk
Kandinsky
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-12| J: Fran Berry| T: M Blanshard
66/1
Gelded son of Compton Place who was a cheap purchase but is a half-brother to a couple of winners. Stable not noted for juvenile winners, so he is best watched on debut.
14
(11)
Horse silk
50/1
Daughter of Canford Cliffs who cost 25,000 gns as a yearling and is a half-sister to two winners. Stable going quite well so she is worth keeping an eye on as she makes her debut.

(5)
Horse silk
Molly Blake28
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-11| J: H Crouch| T: C G Cox
20/1
A £24,000 daughter of Bated Breath, she is a half-sister to a couple of winners on the continent. Only hinted at promise on debut at Chepstow and may need more time to develop.
16
(10)
Horse silk
20/1
Good deal of promise on both starts over 5f, latterly at Chepstow where she had Molly Blake behind. Has to prove herself over this longer trip, but respected all the same.
17
(18)
Horse silk
200/1
Fast Company filly who was a cheap purchase but is from a fair middle-distance family. No show on debut at Nottingham and is best watched for now.
18
(9)
Horse silk
125/1
Zoffany filly who cost only £5,000 this year and whose dam was a winner over 6f and 7f. Probably best watch unless there is significant support for her.

Verdict

A competitive opener numerically, but it is likely that plenty of the newcomers will need the experience. Two top trainers saddle horses which have already won, but both have second strings which catch the eye so this is far from straightforward. The vote goes to URBAN ICON, who was quite impressive on debut at Windsor and may have too many guns for fellow winner Certain Lad. The selection's stable companion, Critical Data, is respected, while Indian Viceroy, Even Keel and Mayfair Madame also enter calculations.
  1. Urban Icon
  2. Certain Lad
  3. Critical Data
