Struggled so far in handicaps having broken his maiden at Epsom (7f, good) last August. Blinkers didn't do the trick last time here on turf and now makes AW debut. Needs to do more to be involved.

Maiden after five starts but had some tough tasks. Disappointed last start although soft ground a possible excuse. Visor goes on for the first time but improvement needed.

Went up to a mile for the fist time on reappearance at Windsor (good) two weeks ago. Hung left through most of that contest and was weak in the final furlong. May have needed that first run for eight months but this drop back to 7f looks a good move

Has shaped very much like a sprinter so far and there has to be a slight concern going up in trip here. He is falling down the weights and there was some encouragement at Bath (5f, firm) last time for seeing out a longer trip. Top rider booked.

Consistent front runner that goes back up to 7f having raced at a furlong shorter the last twice. Gives his all so no secrets from the handicapper and maybe vulnerable to a couple of these late on.

Still a maiden after six starts but led for a long way on comeback at Newmarket off a 2lb lower mark 11 days ago. Should trip fitter for that run and is likely to be in the shake up once more. Could face competition for the lead if going forward.

Won back-to-back nurseries over 7f at Kempton (AW) at the back-end of last summer. Couldn't deal with an 8lb rise when going for the hat-trick dropped back to 6f. Had a seven month break and every chance of further progression this year.

Didn't cut much ice in three starts last year. 100/30 for handicap debut at Leicester (7f, heavy) last month when yards runners were tending to need the run. Visor goes on for the first time and Ryan Moore keeps the ride. Improvement likely.

Won a maiden here last September over 6f on turf (good to soft) when trained by Richard Hughes. Has shown very little since including for this yard. Mark is falling but needs vast improvement.

Another one that likes to get on with things if on a going day. Beaten a very long won over C&D last month and has been dropped 4lbs as a result. Stevie Donohoe takes over in the saddle. Vulnerable to less exposed types.

Big prices in three runs to gain this mark. Best effort by some way at Windsor (1m, good) last time when shaping like a drop back to 7f would be a good idea. Tongue tie goes on for handicap debut and market check is needed.

Sent off favourite on both starts as a juvenile but showed very little. Shaped a little better over C&D in January having been gelded prior to that run. Hood used there is left off today and makes handicap debut off a dangerous looking mark.

Didn't show a great deal in three starts over six furlongs at big prices last autumn. Type to do much better now handicapping and step up to 7f looks a good move. Yard very good at improving this type and any market support would be significant.

Forecasts

Al Mustashar (7/2), Beachwalk (5/1), Island Sound (7/1), Knockout Blow (15/2), Deadly Accurate (8/1), Port Of Call (9/1), Mountain Peak (10/1), Jeopardy John (10/1), Global Spirit (12/1), Cristal Pallas Cat (25/1), Fleeting Steps (33/1), Pesky Wabbitt (33/1), Ragstone Road (100/1)

Verdict

There is potentially plenty of pace on here and this may well be set up for something closing in late. Port Of Call is likely to come on for is reappearance and is respected. Mountain Peak is one of several that have the potential to improve this term. Beachwalk is interesting with the yard now in better from and Ryan Moore keeping the faith. The shortlist is headed by Fleeting Steps who should improve now handicapping and by AL MUSTASHAR. The last named was sent off favourite on his first two starts and has probably been trained with handicaps in mind since. He can make a winning handicap debut.
  1. Al Mustashar
  2. Fleeting Steps
  3. Beachwalk
