Can look a little quirky hence the headgear but that combination appeared to help him win at Bath last year on quick ground off a 2lb lower mark. Ran two good races after that and looked a little unfortunate in a 0-90 at Newmarket (poorly placed).

Won twice in handicaps last year both at this 6f the second in slightly better grade than this. Continued to run consistently well after that off higher marks without winning although quick ground looks essential to her chance; folded tamely on soft.

C&D winner last year on his third start off a 4lb higher mark helped by a strongly run race when with Karl Burke. Not in quite the same form for this yard and tried over a mile when last seen on the AW and running with credit; chance at his best.

Scored back-to-back last year with the second win coming on his handicap debut beating another improver at Brighton (6f, good to soft). Failed to follow-up that effort and needed the run last time after 6 months off; this run should reveal more.

Both wins here came consecutively over 5f last year when it looked as though he had found his form again. Not quite in the same form afterwards though and his two runs this year both on the AW have been very poor; without usual tongue-tie this year.

Hit a real purple patch when joining this yard last year winning his first three starts and looking a progressive sort. Needed his first run this year but was well backed last time meeting trouble in running but still performing creditably.

Two of his last three wins have come over C&D; last one coming out of the blue off a 3lb higher mark. Performed creditably for the most part for the rest of the year but despite needing the run shaped better than final placing last time.

Has some fairly useful form in handicaps despite never having won one with the handicapper not cutting him much slack. Finally drops below the 80 mark threshold and back to 6f although needs to show more zip than last two starts over 5f.

Looks the sort that this yard can improve and having run better for them after a break he got off the mark over 5f on the AW. That looked a good effort (had to run down two pace setters); looks interesting back on turf and over 6f (should suit).

Showed promise in all his three maiden runs in 2016 and looked the sort to improve in handicaps. Only given one race last year (AW/handicap debut) looking as though the race was needed; remains with potential and any market moves should be noted.

Forecasts

Delagate This Lord (7/2), Daschas (9/2), Open Wide (6/1), Buxted Dream (6/1), Parnassian (6/1), Angel Of Darkness (6/1), Blitz (7/1), Dimitre (8/1), Englishman (20/1), Vimy Ridge (25/1), Nautical Haven (33/1)

Verdict

A competitive heat and quite a few that can be given a chance here with Daschas looking just the sort to improve having performed well last time on the AW. Dimitre would be the most unexposed in this field but he’s shown promise on all his runs although he has been lightly-raced so far and might just need this outing. DELAGATE THIS LORD was in fine form for the Attwater barn last year and gave notice on his last run that he was nearing that peak again. Open Wide appears to have a chance despite topweight and Buxted Dream is another who should improve having now had a run.
  1. Delagate This Lord
  2. Daschas
  3. Dimitre
