Runner up on handicap debut at Newcastle in November 2017, beaten just ½L by the subsequent winner Lord Caprio. Raised 5lb, but has previous Redcar experience and an eye-catching jockey booking.

Nathaniel colt who cost €250,000 as a yearling but isn't exactly progressing overly quickly. Failed to stay the 1m5f trip (keen) on handicap debut at Chelmsford last month, but merits another chance over a more suitable trip.

Placed for the third time in succession at Southwell (1m) last month, when keeping on at the same pace to finish just under 2L third to How Bizarre. Ex Jim Bolger and makes just his second start for Brian Ellison today.

No joy in a couple of juvenile spins for Richard Hannon (1m) and whilst showing improvement for her new handler, doesn't appear blessed with an abundance of raw natural ability. Wears first time cheek-pieces.

Beaten 13L by Yabass at Ripon on his most recent start (1m4f soft), so fair to say that a quick glance at his overall form figures could prove misleading. A drop back in trip looks to be a smart move.

Reliable for her level on the AW at Newcastle last back-end (3,1,5). Proved her stamina when winning over that testing straight mile, but needs to do so again now upped in trip to 1m2f on turf.

Well beaten on his return to action at Wolverhampton last month (1m1f+), and a handicap mark of 68 looks plenty high enough based upon what he's shown so far.

Gelded over the winter, and shaped encouragingly over this trip at Nottingham last month (good to soft) when beaten just 1L by Apache Blaze. Must enter the equation at least based upon that effort.

Handicap debutante who is upped in trip after finishing a never nearer fifth to Augenblick at Newcastle in November (7f). Rates as potentially interesting in a weak race, especially if the market vibes are positive.

Left his previous form in the past when upped in trip to 1m2f at Yarmouth last week, beaten only a neck by Immortal Romance. Solid chance if able to back that effort up on very similar ground.

Left Jamie Osborne for 15,000 gns in February 2018. A six race maiden who is yet to race on turf, but should find winning opportunities eventually for his new connections (half-brother to a couple of winners including Cat Royale; 1m-1m3f+).

Disqualified after winning at Windsor ten days ago (1m good) after a barging match with the unlucky Bombshell Boy. Shown that he's more than capable of 'winning' from his current mark.

Not proved all that hot to handle just yet, and has scarcely managed to beat a single rival in four career starts. Not an obvious contender unless improving massively for the step up in trip.

Forecasts

Cristal Spirit (6/4), Firby (5/1), Nibras Galaxy (13/2), He's Our Star (17/2), Canadian George (10/1), Global Style (16/1), Moltoir (18/1), Champarisi (20/1), Contrebasse (20/1), Trump Alexander (25/1), Bill Cody (40/1), Tommy Shelby (66/1), Toohottotouch (100/1)

Verdict

Cristal Spirit is an obvious contender if able to replicate his improved Yarmouth effort last week (1m2f), and represents a trainer who commands respect at all times, whilst the likes of Canadian George, Firby and He's Our Star have pressing claims based upon their latest performances. However, in a race which won't take too much winning, we'll have a sporting stab at the handicap debutante CONTREBASSE. He looks as if he needs this significant step up in trip (his dam was placed over 1m4f), and his opening mark of 65 looks more than manageable.
  1. Contrebasse
  2. Cristal Spirit
  3. Firby
