Still doesn't have many miles on the clock for a five-year-old and now tries his longest ever trip after finding the mile in the Lincoln inadequate. Handles this sort of ground but there must be a doubt about him seeing out this trip.

Hardy and useful stayer who has some smart form to his name although didn't quite live up to expectations in 2017. Quite possibly needed his reappearance run but looked far from his old self and maybe not as good as he was.

Useful hurdler who has never been seen in this discipline before but did have some smart bumper form to his name. Worth a try on the Flat although this is a tough ask on his first try in this sphere.

Makes his return from wind surgery having run well below form when last seen having won the Northumberland Plate last year. Maybe able to show something like that sort of form if the surgery has proved beneficial; may need further to show his best.

Previously with Richard Hannon and showed some smart form with him he's not been seen on the Flat for nearly two years but comes here via a hurdles outing for his new yard. That may have brought him on and his best would see him go close.

Takes a drop in grade from when last seen when possibly not suited by the soft ground (has tended to avoid it). His last two runs at this level have resulted in a win and a second so he could be a danger here if coping with the ground.

Age: 8|  Weight: 9-1| J: D Tudhope| T: D Carroll| OR:  102| C| D
11/2
Quirky sort who proved as good as ever to win a race he finished second in the previous year at Doncaster in testing conditions over 1m4f. This will test his mettle a lot more though and he looks to have a tougher task in an attempt to follow-up.

A winner three times in handicaps last year he's come up short the last twice that he's been tried in this grade and he's not looked to be himself so far this year. Reverts to turf here but on what he's shown on the AW he's got a tough task here.

Formerly with Hughie Morrison this will be his first run for a new yard having run poorly in a Group 3 last time. Prior to that he managed to take the runner-up slot in a French Listed contest and a repeat of that would put him in the equation.

Mount Moriah182

11/8
Progressed well in 2017 winning a couple of handicaps and bettering both those victories with a 4th in an Ascot Group 2 when a 66/1 chance. His last handicap win showed that he could cope with this trip although 2m plus may suit better.

Age: 4|  Weight: 9-0| J: Edward Greatrex| T: Eve Johnson Houghton| OR:  103| D
4/1
A three-time winner in 2017 he progressed well through the handicap ranks before making the most of a good opportunity to land a Salisbury conditions race (1m6f, soft). A consistent sort he deserves a chance at this level with usual headgear back on.

Forecasts

Mount Moriah (11/8), On To Victory (4/1), Saigon City (11/2), Clever Cookie (11/1), Humphrey Bogart (14/1), Nearly Caught (16/1), Chelsea Lad (16/1), Higher Power (20/1), Coeur Blimey (20/1), Soldier In Action (25/1), Vent De Force (100/1)

Verdict

One of the best pieces of form in this came when MOUNT MORIAH finished 4th on Champions Day and if he can reproduce that first time out then he looks the one to beat here. His fellow four-year-old On To Victory progressed well last year although not to the same extent but he still deserves his chance in this sort of company. Of the older brigade Nearly Caught will enjoy the drop in grade if he can cope with the ground while it will be interesting to see what Higher Power can do after wind surgery.
  1. Mount Moriah
  2. On To Victory
  3. Nearly Caught
