Fast improving filly who is essentially out of this grade of race now carrying a 6lb penalty for her winning turf debut at Windsor on Monday (5f heavy). The only slight question mark is the drying ground.
Cost 50,000 gns as a yearling, but yet to make a significant impression in any of her three appearances so far. Handicap debut on her second start on turf.
Strong enough to win a Lingfield seller in December (5f), but only third in a better race at Southwell next time. Races from a 3lb higher mark after a four month absence.
Beaten just 1L by Shovel It On at Nottingham in August (6f good), but hasn't kicked on positively from that pleasing effort. Now an 8-race maiden, but dangerous to dismiss this trainers horses in sprints.
£13,000 yearling by Sepoy who seeks to illustrate that some ability lurks within on handicap debut. Couldn't be advised on what we've seen so far (6f-7f).
His sole career success came in a six runner Brighton maiden for Sylvester Kirk in June 2017 (6f good to firm). Sold for 8,000 gns in October, but no show on three starts for this trainer. Mark easing.
Dropped 4lb following a low-key handicap debut at Wolverhampton (6f) last month. Still early days, and he might've feasibly needed that race. Turf debut.
Showed definite signs of ability when a runner up at Epsom on her second career start in July 2017 (6f good), but she's back-peddled since and now races from a mark 9lb lower than when introduced to handicaps.
Beaten just over 1L (fourth) in a bunch finish on handicap debut at Lingfield last week (7f). Back on turf from a 2lb lower mark, but well beaten previously over C&D on Good Friday (heavy).
Cost £40,000 as a yearling and is a half-brother to the 5f Group 1 winner Battaash. Not beaten all that many home in three starts so far, but goes handicapping from a lowly mark having been gelded.
Showed very little to work with as a juvenile (0 from 4), but off since September and gelded. Dropped 3lb since his first start in a handicap.
Filled rear-division positions in all four starts so far (6f), including on handicap debut at Lingfield (good to soft) in August 2017. Dropped 2lb for seasonal reappearance.
Only managed to finish in front of two rivals on her last three starts (5f to 7f), so looks to be a regressive filly. Handicap mark easing dramatically as a result.
Now a seven race maiden, and hasn't made a great impression so far in 2018. Races from a career low mark of 52, but with good reason.
Ran on strongly to finish runner up to Zain Smarts at this track in August 2017 (5f), and produced her best effort since at Kempton earlier this month (6f) when finishing ¾L second to Chloellie. Considered in a poor race.
Forecasts
Marietta Robusti (7/4), Following Breeze (6/1), Crystal Deauville (11/1), Baileys Excel (12/1), Glamorous Dream (12/1), Spot Lite (12/1), Ellen Gates (14/1), Ce De Nullis (14/1), Dracarys (16/1), Littlelordconford (20/1), Grand Acclaim (25/1), Alaska (25/1), Diamond Express (33/1), Comselle (50/1), Courteous Crown (50/1)
A weak race in which plenty of those declared have shown precious little form so far. That said, there are reasons to expect improvement from the likes of Baileys Excel, Littlelordconford and Grand Acclaim; which range from the introduction to handicapping on turf to the most savage cut of all (gelded). Following Breeze sits at the foot of the weights, but she's shown that she handles this track and is in good form at present. However, Monday's Windsor winner MARIETTA ROBUSTI is essentially a better horse than this grade, and should make it 2 from 2 on turf if unhindered by the faster underfoot conditions.
- Marietta Robusti
- Littlelordconford
- Following Breeze
