7f soft ground winner at Musselburgh last year from 8lb lower. Posted better effort at Doncaster (7f, soft) in a competitive handicap last time. Noduged up another 1lb and dropped in trip but remains of interest. Handled this track on only try.
Goes well on soft ground and at 6f/7f. 3lb higher today than when beaten ½L at Newcastle (6f, Tapeta) last time but enters calculations again.
Was a heavy ground C&D winner on his seasonal debut in 2016. Has improved since then and his last win was from just 2lb lower at Pontefract (soft) in July. More than capable of a big run from this mark if he is ready first-time back.
Yet to race on testing ground and his best form has been when there has been good in the going description. Has wind surgery prior to his 12½L defeat at Southwell (6f) last month. Bit to prove on more than one count.
Goes well on soft ground. Has not won since July 2016 (20 starts ago) though much of that time has been spent in better company than this. Hinted at a return to form last time and is considered given that and the forecast conditions.
Loves to get his toe in and scored over both 5f/6f on soft ground in the autumn, the latter from just 3lb lower. Didn't get the clearest of passages at Doncaster on his return and probably has potential to produce a better effort this time.
6f specialist who has twice won on soft ground and is 3lb higher today than when scoring at Catterick in October. Won when fresh two seasons ago and 7lb claimed off his back makes him interesting again today.
Proven on heavy ground having won a Listowel maiden (7f) on it last year (in first-time hood) and beaten only ½L on handicap debut (6f, heavy) at Navan when last seen in October. 5lb lower mark for British/stable debut and has claims..
Soft ground winner from today's mark at Ayr last season. Not disgraced from higher ratings after that, though not quite at the level of that win. Used to have a good record when fresh but not as strong in recent seasons but not ruled out if ready.
Scored on debut in 2016 and on seasonal return last year, the latter on soft and his best effort so far. Below that level in four of his five runs since and returns after a wind op here. Stable in decent form and market check advised.
Has a penchant for testing ground although sole success came on Dundalk's Polytrack (7f) 11-months ago. Gelded since last run in October and now makes debut for this stable with a chance on some of his bet Irish form of last year.
Scored on soft (6f) at Yarmouth in August from 8lb lower and comes into this on the back of a win at Chelmsford (6f, Polytrack) earlier in the month. 5lb rise for that but it was his best effort so far and he may have more improvement within.
Scored on soft at Pontefract (5f) in October when 5lb lower, though last from this mark at Nottingham next time and at Lingfield in January. Has a bit to prove on the back on those efforts.
Sole win was over 5f at Wolverhampton (Tapeta) 13-months ago in maiden company. Acts on soft ground and over this trip. Left Tom Dascombe for this trainer since last start in September. May just find a couple too good from this mark.
His four turf wins have all included 'good' in the going decription, though one of his best efforts was on soft over C&D in 2015. Won from just 1lb lower at Doncaster last term and should be better for last month's Chelmsford run.
Handles soft ground and has run a number of good races in defeat since last winning in June 2016. Beaten just ½L on soft at Musselburgh last summer from 4lb higher (under this jockey) and has run well when fresh so is interesting.
5f specialist who has won on soft ground but has not yet proved to be nearly as effective when tried over this far. On a competitive mark, though others makes more appeal over this distance.
Listed scorer who won his maiden over 7f on soft and is effective from 6f-1m. Had wind surgery in the winter and ran well enough on reappearance at Newcastle, though not at good at Wolverhampton last time. Stable won this last year.
Scored by 3L over this trip on soft at Haydock last year when fresh from just 2lb lower and was just ¾L behind Short Work at Catterick (soft) in October. 2lb better off with that rival here and one of many who can't be ruled out.
All his turf winning form for Michael Dods was on good or good to firm ground although he does handle some cut. On a handy mark for his stable debut in new headgear combi and after a wind op though stable a bit quiet. Market check.
Forecasts
Right Touch (11/2), Quick Look (13/2), Ma Fee Heela (7/1), Kupa River (9/1), Summerghand (10/1), Bossipop (12/1), Roaring Forties (14/1), Russian Realm (16/1), Pennsylvania Dutch (16/1), Lexington Times (16/1), Fumbo Jumbo (16/1), Full Intention (18/1), Adam's Ale (20/1), Dandy Highwayman (25/1), Aprovado (33/1), Van Gerwen (33/1), My Name Is Rio (33/1), Short Work (33/1), Henley (40/1), Art Obsession (40/1)
There won't be many tougher handicaps to solve here all season and plenty of the field can be given some sort of chance. The suggestion is KUPA RIVER, who is proven on the ground, represents a stable that he started this term well and also gets a little bit further, which is taken as a positive on the forecast ground. Summerghand arrives in good form for a trainer who has won three of the last seven renewals of this race and he is feared. Quick Look and Right Touch are both much respected. while others to consider include Fumbo Jumbo, Roaring Forties, Russian Realm and Bossipop.
- Kupa River
- Summerghand
- Quick Look
