Twice a C&D winner it is a while since he's won although he did take advantage of being well placed in a race last time to take third over C&D recently. Did have a fair bit in his favour on that occasions though but allowed in off the same mark here.
Course winner over shorter (1m4f) last October in a maiden he's shown improvement since in handicaps although he was below form when last tried over C&D. Ran well enough last time but bumped into an improving sort; has to prove he stays this trip.
Looks to be on a handy mark if things drop right for him although he probable needs a strongly-run race to be seen to best effect. His latest effort showed up his quirks though (can be slow away) and not the most straightforward.
Took three of his last four races last year ending his season with a win at Haydock (1m6f, heavy) although he did take advantage of the wayward tendencies of the second. This will be his first try on the AW but he's capable if he takes to it.
After winning a maiden (end of last year) he showed that he could be set for a good year with a fine return run over 1m4f here. Did most things right until caught close home by one up for the battle; lost nothing at all in defeat and one to note.
Has shown some fair form in the past on turf and AW but he regressed from his comeback run this year when tried on the Fibresand last time. Often starts slowly; has work to do with most of these.
Course winner who benefitted from a good ride when he won at York on his final 2017 start having travelled well throughout the race. Raised 4lb for that effort and now back from his winter break his past form indicates he can cope with this mark.
Steps up significantly in trip by 4f here from when he was second in a Lingfield maiden last time (form franked by a couple in the race). Cheekpieces now replace a first-time visor but has had trouble getting the job done on a few occasions.
Not seen on the Flat since November but disappointed over hurdles last time when well supported having got upset before the race. Finished third here over 1m4f last time and looks to need this sort of test but last run leaves doubts.
Won twice last year in maiden and handicap company and whilst he was consistent after his win the handicapper looked to be in charge. Produced a rare below-par effort last time and needs to bounce back here after a significant absence.
Has returned from a long break but in three runs has shown very little on which build any hopes on this year. Now steps up in trip from the 1m4f he tried last time here but others make far more appeal.
Started his life in bumpers before being tried on the Flat in maidens and a handicap (run best ignored after being hampered). Last seen over hurdles he now returns for another go in Flat handicaps for a new yard and hooded (first-time).
Formerly a fairly useful performer when with James Fanshawe his form for this yard has been poor (mainly over hurdles). Tried in an AW handicap returned to the Flat last time but finished well held and has a longer trip to cope with here.
Forecasts
Soghan (7/2), October Storm (4/1), On Fire (13/2), Master Archer (7/1), Gavlar (7/1), Uber Cool (7/1), Continuum (8/1), Sea Sovereign (11/1), Isaac Bell (20/1), Quothquan (25/1), Counterfeiter (50/1), Silver Quay (50/1), Enmeshing (66/1)
Another contest that looks a complex puzzle but the booking of the champion jockey would suggest that a big run is expected from October Storm having run well when last seen at York. Uber Cool has the look of one who will be able to show more this year after he ended last season in good form and could show more here. Master Archer deserves to win a race having finished in the runner-up slot on a few occasions but that does suggest he has a few quirks. SOGHAN is the one that makes the most appeal though despite stepping up in trip here he did and awful lot right last time and surely has more to offer.
- Soghan
- Uber Cool
- October Storm
