Twice a winner around here but over further each time he puts his unbeaten record at the track on the line here. Has offered little in three runs for this yard though finding this trip too sharp for him at Southwell last time.

Course winner here last year over a mile that was just one of three runs that he had scoring off a 5lb lower mark. Stepped up on his recent comeback run last time when 3rd here over a mile (novice stakes) and worth a try at 7f in a strongly run race.

Given his form last year he looks the sort who holds even more potential this year but has yet to run on the AW. Won three times on turf last year at 7f and is only 4lb higher than his last win; one to be interested in if he takes to the surface.

Hooded on his first start for one of his former yards having been sold for 8,000 guineas in October and has had wind surgery. No wins on his CV since 2014 but is 6lb below that last winning mark; likely to need this outing though.

First time on the Polytrack having had the cheekpieces he wore last time at York removed after a poor run there (well backed). Went with little fluency there but has slipped back below his last winning mark but does need to find his form.

Hood tried last time out is now removed with his recent reappearance over a mile here not showing much spark (pulled hard; left poorly placed). More needed to take a hand and doesn't appear to have built on his Leicester 7f win last June.

Twice placed in maidens when starting out with this yard but well held on his one subsequent start in a better event when last seen. Now drops back to 7f returning to Polytrack staring out in handicaps; market to provide the best guide to his chance.

Been kept busy on synthetic surfaces of late but the handicapper appears to have him where he wants him after he won on his return in October over 7f. Has run eight times since then but looked awkward under pressure last time and others preferred.

Thriving for this yard having taken his last two starts for them at Wolverhampton over this trip. Favourite for both of those runs he's travelled strongly and looks capable of going close in a his pursuit of a hat-trick in a slightly better contest.

In rude health last spring/summer winning four turf handicaps over this trip rising from 57 to 76 in the handicap finding plenty for pressure on each occasion. Looked a hard ride in three subsequent starts; surprising he's not been tried in headgear.

A drop into 0-70 company provided the catalyst that saw him return to winning form and he's shaped well in slightly better grade since then. Those two placed efforts were respectable but this is a tougher ask with his handicap mark increasing again.

Looked to show improved form when taking a maiden over 7f at Leicester (not fully extended) having shown promise on his two previous starts. Now makes his handicap debut having just his second handicap run; looks the type to improve.

Ended last season threatening to win having returned to form over 6f here and looks as though 7f would suit and it was strange not to see him over the winter. Now returns from a winter break and may well come on for the run given the time off.

This C&D holds no terrors for her having won over it three times (five-time course winner) and she produced a career best when last seen here in February off 63. Goes up in grade now off a 9lb higher mark but his record here deserves respect.

Forecasts

Ptarmigan Ridge (3/1), Warsaw Road (9/2), Mr Minerals (8/1), Qeyaadah (9/1), Himself (10/1), Sayesse (10/1), Florencio (12/1), Murdanova (12/1), Secondo (16/1), Zain Star (20/1), Magic Mirror (20/1), Pursuing Steed (25/1), Mamillius (40/1), Towerlands Park (40/1)

Verdict

A tough handicap to unravel with a few of the fancied runners facing difficult wide draws like the improving C&D winner Murdanova who faces a 4lb rise here in pursuit of a hat-trick. Mr Minerals is another of that bunch who faces the same problem with the course specialist but up in grade Magic Mirror another in the double-figure stalls. It may therefore be best to concentrate on a couple of the more lightly-raced types one of which would be Ptarmigan Ridge on his handicap debut. However, he’s just usurped here by WARSAW ROAD who ended last year with two wins to give him a really good record at the trip with every hope that he’ll be suited by this surface.
  1. Warsaw Road
  2. Ptarmigan Ridge
  3. Murdanova
