Showed some promise when trained by Roger Varian but seemingly regressing for this yard and it would be a surprise if he's good enough to get his head in front against these.
Raven's Pass colt, cost 110,000 gns at Breeze-Ups. Half-brother to Group 2 winning juvenile Donjuan Triumphant. Never a factor when well beaten on debut here but much better at Newbury last time and form of that race has been franked.
Invincible Spirit colt, half-brother to Group 2 winner Gregorian and dam a half-sister to a Listed winner. Yard's debutantes have been ready to go this season and yard enjoying plenty of winners lately. Interesting runner.
Unplaced on seven of his eight starts and brings a low official rating in to the race. Huge surprise if he's good enough to win this.
So You Think colt, cost €10,000 as a foal and €15,000 as a yearling. Yard's only runner in recent weeks was a winner at Lingifeld but this colt likely to need his debut.
Dutch Art colt, cost 110,000 gns as a yearling. Dam a two-year-old sprint winner, closely related to Listed placed Nocturn. Improved from his debut to place at Wolverhampton but much more on his plate here and may struggle.
Canford Cliffs colt, dam a half-sister to Group 3 winner Sub Rose. May want further than this trip given time but he ran well on debut when placed at Sandown and form of that race has been franked. Holds a Guineas entry and not ruled out.
Bahamian colt, cost 45,000 gns as a foal and £140,000 as a yearling. Dam, half-sister to Group 3 winner Ouqba. Ought to carry on progressing for these powerful connections and ran well on the July course here on debut. Claims.
Leroidesanimaux colt, cost 37,000 gns as a yearling. Half-brother to a Listed winner over a mile and dam a half-sister to a Listed winner over further. Yard's debutantes always respected but this one may do better over further.
Exceed and Excel colt, cost 65,000 gns as a yearling. Dam a half-sister to a Group 1 winner and related to more winners. Enough speed in his pedigree to suggest he can be effective over this trip and booking of De Sousa is a positive.
Unlucky not to have got his head in front yet and has run very well over C&D on his last two starts. Sets a fair standard here and yard have had four winners from six runners in the last two weeks. Not out of this, particularly if he's improved.
Holy Roman Emperor gelding, cost €90,000 as foal but bought for just 20,000 gns at the sales here last year. Dam was a Listed winner and half-sister to a Group 1 winner. Showed nothing when last of eight on debut and may do better over further.
Kodiac colt, cost €62,000 as a foal and €64,000 as a yearling. Dam a half-sister to a Listed winner over 2m. Yard can ready one for a debut and market watch advised.
Forecasts
History Writer (3/1), Jawwaal (7/2), Porth Swtan (4/1), Bacacarat (6/1), Global Art (10/1), Mutafani (12/1), Calendimaggio (20/1), King's Slipper (20/1), Stormer (22/1), Ambient (33/1), Giovanni (50/1), Saphil (100/1), Catapult (150/1)
Porth Swtan has plenty on his side with experience of this course likely to prove valuable and he sets the standard for his rivals to aim at for the in-form Charlie Hills stable. However, JAWWAAL is the preference given that he's less exposed and likely to have improved plenty over the winter. History Writer is an interesting runner given he has a Guineas entry; he would want to be landing this race if he's to line up back here in the big race next month.
