Won at Naas (6f) in April last year off 2lbs lower. Generally struggled off higher marks since. Has dropped back down the weights on first start for shrewd trainer. Hopes pinned on new surroundings having a positive effect.

Mark has tumbled from lofty heights as a juvenile. Ran poorly on first run for new yard at Newcastle (6f) on the AW last time. Hard to fancy at present but no surprise if he bounces back at some point.

Two from twelve on turf and both of those wins came over this trip. Conditions should be no problem but needs a career best to win today.

Ventura Secret160
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-7| J: Paula Muir(7)| T: M Dods| OR:  72
Had a good season last year when running consistantly well and winning three times. Ability to handle soft ground a huge plus and could go well if ready to go on the back of 6 months off.

Suitcase 'n' Taxi174
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-7| J: D Allan| T: T D Easterby| OR:  72| D
Can be a bit in and out but capable on a going day. Only 1lb higher than when winning at Carlisle (6f) back in August. Best form tends to be on stiffer tracks but couldn't dismiss.

Tricky Dicky69
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-7| J: S H James| T: Olly Williams| OR:  72| BF| CD
Tends to save his best effort these days for the Fibresand surface at Southwell. Is much lower in the weights on turf and is a previous C&D winner so comes here with much more to recommened him that most. Should run his race.

Amazing Grazinge/s12
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-6| J: D Tudhope| T: Rebecca Bastiman| OR:  71| D
Has had a busy winter and changed yard again prior to last run at Southwell (6f) on the Fibresand when finishing sixth of eight. Requires a career best to win this on only third turf start.

B Fifty Two168
Age: 9|  Weight: 9-4| J: Sebastian Woods(7)| T: Mrs Marjorie Fife| OR:  69| BF| DWS
Ran well on several occasions when well found in the market at the back end of last season. Interesting that he has had a wind operation since that last run. Dangerously well handicapped on his old form and should be taken seriously.

Age: 4|  Weight: 9-2| J: Jason Hart| T: J & S Quinn| OR:  67| D
Sole win came in a weak maiden at Catterick (6f, soft) last term. Form has somewhat tailed off since and is hard to fancy as a result. Mark is slipping but revival needed before becomming of interest.

Lanjanop23
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-1| J: K Stott| T: K A Ryan| OR:  66| CD
Sole win came over C&D (good to firm) as a two-year-old. Ran well when 4th of 8 at Chelmsford (6f, AW) last time when seeming to get rolling too late. Has multiple entries this week and yard have started well on the turf.

Captain Bobp27
Age: 7|  Weight: 9-0| J: P J McDonald| T: P A Kirby| OR:  65| D
Won back to back races last year off lower marks but has been largely out of sorts since. Hints at both Chelmsford (7f, AW) and Newcastle (7f, AW) that a return to peak form may not be far away.

Hadleyp20
Age: 5|  Weight: 8-9| J: Ben Robinson(5)| T: Miss Tracy Waggott| OR:  60| D
Just one win from 25 rules starts. Still 8lb higher than winning at Thirsk in August. Tends to run his race but once again likely to find at least one or two too good.

Forecasts

Tricky Dicky (3/1), Lanjano (4/1), B Fifty Two (11/2), Captain Bob (8/1), Rapid Applause (12/1), Ventura Secret (12/1), Amazing Grazing (12/1), Suitcase 'n' Taxi (14/1), Hadley (14/1), Majeste (16/1), Kody Ridge (16/1), Benjamin Thomas (20/1)

Verdict

A wide open looking handicap with lots of early season questions to answer. Hard to get overly enthusiastic about many of them. Hadley gets in here off a low racing weight with his rider taking off a handy 5lbs and should run his race. Tricky Dicky is race fit and should go well but preference on this occasion is for B FIFTY TWO. He is still very well handicapped on his old form. His rider claims a valuable 7lbs and if the wind operation has a positive effect he could be tough to beat.
  1. B Fifty Two
  2. Hadley
  3. Tricky Dicky
