Fairly versatile performer in terms of ground and trip, but may find this weight too big an ask here. Wears a first-time eye shield for first run at this course.
Beaten favourite at Catterick last time but has shown he can be a strong contender in these races on his day (won a claimer at that same course two starts ago). Has a bigger weight here and possibly better over further but still should go close.
Much better than this quality of race at this peak and probably slightly better on turf, but still needs considering following some good handicap form over this trip during the summer.
Has been in fair form recently, including winning AW races over this trip twice since August. Form has trailed off slightly but has a nice draw to help him bounce back here.
C&D winner, who has been an infrequent enough AW runner over the past couple of years, but ran well in a seller here last time (over 7f) and has a small chance on that form..
Disappointing in handicaps the last twice having shaped with promise in novice/maiden events when trained by Luca Cumani. This switch to claiming company could be an opportunity to get back on track.
Probably the best of his three runs for this trainer so far came in a claiming event at this course (over a furlong shorter). Carries a bigger weight here but still has a good chance with the longer trip likely to help.
Useful performer in selling company, but all wins for this yard have been over much further than this, and he looks likely to get outpaced here.
Only AW win came at this course almost two years ago. Only tame form recently both on a synthetic surface and on turf, and much more needed here.
Carries a similar weight as when finishing seventh at Lingfield last time, also in a claimer. This drop in trip is a positive, however.
Just one weak Thirsk handicap to his name and last two efforts here have shown very little, with blinkers on now. Others preferred.
Forecasts
Bernie's Boy (11/4), Captain Bob (10/3), Glorious Rocket (11/2), Strategic Heights (13/2), Newstead Abbey (7/1), Peachey Carnehan (10/1), Morache Music (16/1), Ace Master (20/1), Miningrocks (20/1), Hugie Boy (25/1), Sarabi (33/1)
The race may have been over shorter but STRATEGIC HEIGHTS caught the eye at this course two starts ago and is just as effective over this furlong longer trip, so he is taken to return to winning ways. Reunited with 7lb apprentice Jack Drismore, who rode him that day, he carries a little more weight but still should be able to have a major say at a track where course form can be of paramount importance. Glorious Rocket would have a chance on the early promise he showed when trained by Luca Cumani while Bernie's Boy is possibly better over further but could also get involved.
- Strategic Heights
- Glorious Rocket
