Caught on the post by Brigliadoro over this trip at Kempton in early October, and thereabouts (fifth) in a stronger race at Lingfield next time. Consistent and admirable veteran, but others appear much more progressive.

Highly rated for what he has achieved; albeit he did score in a Class 2 Leicester handicap for Martyn Meade in October 2016 (7f). Sold for 33,000 gns in July, and debuted for this stable at Lingfield last month (modest effort).

Seemingly effective at the vast majority of AW venues, but possibly remains a shade high in the weights at present. C&D winner here in December 2016 (rated 80), and the stable are going particularly well at this point in time.

A six time AW, but never beyond 7f, or at this track. Largely below his best, and yet to win for current connections, but can be excused his latest effort after meeting trouble in running.

Has done the vast majority of his racing over sprint trips, and started the season with a likeable 5f success at Thirsk. Has lost his way since then, but is beginning to fall in the weights, and his pedigree implies this trip is worth a try.

In tip-top condition over 1m at Lingfield in the early part of 2017, with form figures reading 2,1,1 in January and February. Back with a fair effort in a Conditions Stakes over 7f latest, and this looks a better option.

Hasn't won since his debut at Redcar in July 2015, but offered some hopes for an AW career when a runner up in the Seaton Delaval Handicap at Newcastle in June (1m). Moderate since, but 3lb lower now. First run at Chelmsford.

Now 13lb above his last winning AW mark (7f, Chelmsford in March), but that's because he has progressed on turf, winning readily in deep ground at Epsom in early October (7f). Needs to be at his very best from his current mark, but does stay 1m.

A seven time AW winner, but all of those victories have come in weaker contests than this. Kempton specialist who is predicted to struggle, but hopefully there will be other days as his mark slowly eases.

Lightly raced filly who won her first two career starts on synthetics (Kempton), and progressed on turf, finishing third in a Listed contest at York in May. This represents her best opportunity in a while as she defends her 100% AW record.

Head runner up on debut in a very strong Newcastle maiden in November 2016, won by subsequent Group 1 Goodwood Cup victor Stradivarius. Hacked up at Kempton in April (beating Ply), and looks thrown in off a mark of 87 on handicap debut.

Veteran who is a four time C&D winner. Beaten 2¾L by Qaffaal in this race in 2016 (Chevalier third), but unfortunately for him it looks potentially far deeper tonight.

Forecasts

Bowerman (9/4), Sibilance (4/1), Chevallier (13/2), Belgian Bill (8/1), C Note (12/1), London (12/1), Loyalty (12/1), Kickboxer (14/1), Mr Bossy Boots (14/1), Kentuckyconnection (16/1), Believe It (25/1), Holiday Magic (25/1)

Verdict

BOWERMAN shines like the proverbial beacon in this 1m handicap. He really caught the eye on debut at Newcastle in November 2016, when finishing runner up to Stradivarius. Obviously that winner progressed enormously moving forward, as did the third placed horse Mutarabby. He was therefore, predictably punted like defeat was out of the question when shedding his maiden tag with ease at Kempton in April (beating the now 100-rated Ply by 3¾L). Absent since, he's presumably had problems, but an opening mark of 87 looks an absolute gift, and he's strongly fancied to score decisively on handicap debut. Sibilance is the pick of the remainder, assuming that she can cope with the hustle and bustle of this type of contest.
