Not disgraced behind high class sort on debut on turf before two good AW runs including maiden victory last time over 1m½f. Exceptional dirt pedigree so quick ground likely ideal and extra ½f will suit so go well for prolific two-year old trainer.

Not disgraced in three starts so far, all of which came with cut in the ground. Much quicker ground here and gets an extra furlong so reasons for improvement on handicap debut.

Dual winner at Brighton including latest, his handicap debut over 1m. Hung left in both wins so vast expanses of this course could be a worry and 7lb higher today.

Maiden of five starts has shaped well in two handicaps to date including her latest over C&D when recovering from a slow start to finish third. Looks sure to go well despite 1lb higher mark.

Shown ability at up to 1m2f in three starts to date without ever seriously getting involved. Handicap debut sees him with a better chance now, receiving weight from the principles.

Eight starts to date without success and tries new trip here which is concerning given he looked a non-stayer over 1m½f previously. Others make more appeal.

Verdict

It is far from uncommon for John Gosden's horses to improve when stepped up in trip and with better ground also likely to suit there are two good reasons why BOLD REASON could prove better than his opening mark. He gets the nod here over Shaherezada who has shown she is competitive off similar marks and also her effectiveness over course and distance. Also considered is Kind Act who like the selection should benefit from quicker ground and slightly further.
  1. Bold Reason
  2. Shaherezada
  3. Kind Act
