Landed a weak looking Newbury maiden but did so nicely and at a time when the yard's runners in this age group were underperforming. Got boxed in when fancied for the Solario and not unduly punished once his chances were compromised.

Showcasing colt, cost 85,000 gns as a two-year-old. Half-brother to two-year-old winning sprinter and dam was a sister to French Listed winner Kithira. No show on debut but probably better than that and yard 8-17 here with juveniles.

Second foal and half-brother to 6f 2yo winner Robben Rainbow. Yard have a good year with this age group and particularly on the AW where they are 8-19.

100,000 gns son of Zebedee out of a well-related dam. Well supported on Thirsk debut when the heavy ground led to a subdued performance. Yard are 7-22 in AW juvenile races this term.

Sir Prancealot gelding, cost €42,000 as a yearling and half-brother to five winners. No show on debut and this looks an even tougher race.

90,000 gns purchase and related to some useful winners. No show on Chester debut when looking green and ill at ease on the ground. Rider 7-17 for the stable this year.

65,000 gns gelded son of Dark Angel and second foal of a well-related dam. Like many of the yard's runners he looked in need of his debut. Will know more this time but could be one for next year.
Son of Keheleyf and first foal of an unraced dam who is a half-sister to Gabrial The Tiger. Looks highly tried on debut.

First Defence colt, half-brother to sprinter Epic Voyage and dam was a US Grade 2 winner. Produced a much better effort last time when travelling strongly until the final furlong. Could improve again on this quicker surface.

Declaration Of War colt, cost 60,000 gns as a yearling. Dam a winner over this trip as a juvenile and half-sister to two Listed winners. Mid-division at 50/1 on debut but did not show enough to suggest he is up to this as yet.

50/1
Mastercraftsman colt, cost 38,000 gns as a yearling. Dam a Listed placed two-year-old around this trip and a half-sister to a Group 3 winner. Yard's debutantes usually need the run but can't be ruled out if supported in the market.

New Approach half-brother to a couple of winners and entered for the 2018 Derby. Yard are just 1-11 with juveniles in 2017 but historically October has been a good month to follow their runners in this age group.

Forecasts

Purser (4/9), Beachwalk (5/1), Wajaaha (7/1), Masked Defender (14/1), Conversant (16/1), Fanan (16/1), Blue Candy (33/1), Grey Spirit (40/1), Valentino Dancer (50/1), Pact Of Steel (50/1), Key Player (66/1), Danish Dancer (66/1)

Verdict

PURSER may not have beaten much at Newbury but his fourth in the Solario Stakes sets a high standard for his rivals to aim at. Wajaaha is an interesting market angle although his trainer's juveniles have not been as forward as you would normally expect. Fanan will appreciate this more than the soft ground around Chester but can learn from the experience and the jockey booking takes the eye.
  1. Purser
  2. Fanan
  3. Wajaaha
