Landed his first handicap in five seasons last month and beaten since over 7f. Weighted to be competitive but stable are having a quiet spell.
Has been hard to catch right since scoring off a higher mark on his first start of 2016. Appeared to be coming back to his best last time and has an ideal draw.
Best when able to dominate in less competitive races than this. Faces a stiff task having been raised 6lb for a wide margin success in bad ground last time.
Winner at Epsom during Derby week and has struggled off his new mark since. Poor draw makes his task even harder.
Fifth from a poor draw in this 12 months ago and more favourably positioned this time. Good claimer booked and has gone well fresh in the past.
Has one win and four seconds in five starts here. Needs a career best to land this following his recent Pontefract success and would appreciate some rain.
Capable in this grade from this kind of mark. Rider does well for the yard but the draw is a worry.
Two years since his last win but handicap mark is becoming more attractive. Much improved effort last time and looks a player with a nice draw.
Poorly drawn and style of running leaves him a hostage to fortune. Undoubtedly well-handicapped if able to overcome those difficulties.
All his wins have come over 5f and appears to have his fair share of weight. Nice enough draw but yet to prove himself up to this standard.
3-41 record is an unlikely profile for a winner in this. Arrives in good order for a yard in form and who have employed this rider to good effect. Not ideally drawn.
Record of 3-14 and has finished second five times. Won on only start here and fits the profile of recent winners being drawn high, aged 4-6 and having run in last 7-14 days. Produced a career best last week and one to consider.
Has finished last on his two most recent starts and stable are going through a quiet spell. Has work to do from an awkward draw.
Not at his best lately and a difficult draw makes this much harder. Down to his last winning mark but probably not up to this grade these days.
Trainer/rider combination are just 1-55 and stable are quiet just now. Upped in class having struggled in lower grade last time and hard to fancy.
Becoming frustrating to follow these days and hard to see him crossing the line in front. Jockey booking adds intrigue and yard have taken the main event itself three times since 2011.
Benefited from an enterprising ride in a less competitive race last time. Up in the weights now and with the yard in less superlative form.
Stable's runners in this and the main event are always worth noting. Chances look favourable with a handy draw but recent efforts have been poor.
Much improved horse this term who has earned the right to represent his small yard here following four victories this term. Needs another career best but ideally drawn to do so.
Tough for a three-year-old to win this and particularly with some of the yard's horses underperforming recently. Latest effort leaves him plenty to find.
Forecasts
Magical Effect (9/2), Bossipop (6/1), King Robert (10/1), Lexington Times (10/1), Red Pike (11/1), Teruntum Star (12/1), The Armed Man (12/1), Rasheeq (12/1), Related (12/1), Jack Dexter (14/1), Harwoods Volante (18/1), Singeur (20/1), Reputation (22/1), Guishan (25/1), Art Obsession (25/1), Fendale (28/1), Stanghow (33/1), Paddy Power (33/1), Hee Haw (40/1), Start Time (50/1)
Ideally you want a high draw, an 83-87 rating and a run in the last 14 days. Last years winner was an exception but we fancy MAGICAL EFFECT to tick the right boxes here. His yard are in great form and his latest success, when overcoming an uncharacteristically slow start to score impressively, shows him to be taking on his toughest test in the best possible shape. The Armed Man brings a similarly progressive profile into this and Red Pike has dropped to a nice mark. Harwood's Volante and Bossipop have each-way claims.
- Magical Effect
- Red Pike
- Bossipop
