Has won AW handicaps with authority on his last two starts and reverts to turf under a double penalty, but is so progressive that this task might be within his powers. Assistance of his capable 3lb claimer a help under this big weight.

Only win in seven turf starts came at Bath in August, 2014. Recent efforts over hurdles and on the Flat have shown nothing to suggest a return to winning ways is imminent.

Experienced campaigner who was won seven of his 70 starts, but has struggled on recent outings. The handicapper has relented and he is seriously well treated if able to recapture something like his best form.

Something was clearly amiss when pulled up at Kempton last time following a series of solid placed efforts. Not raced on turf for quite some time and it will be interesting to see how he fares.

Last win came almost a year ago over 7f at Brighton, but he has been sliding down the weights and is now 5lb lower. Ran his best race for some time at that track last week and clearly likes it there, but has to be of interest if able to replicate that effort at this course.

Seasoned handicapper who was last successful on the AW at Southwell in November but whose previous seven wins had all come on turf. Not at his best on his last couple of starts, but certainly back to a feasible handicap mark.

Some promise in maidens for Richard Hannon, but cut little ice on handicap debut last time and now runs for a new trainer off 5lb lower. Plenty to prove, but still early days for her and she wears cheekpieces for the first time.

Has returned to a trainer he won a couple of races for in 2013, but five outings since the reunion have failed to provide a success. Ran respectably when third over C&D last time and has an each-way shout again.

Has won one of his 11 starts, on the Kempton AW in April, but the majority of his runs have been on turf. Last two displays have been disappointing and he needs to bounce back.

Alternates between AW and turf, but has registered only one win in 25 starts. Recent efforts have been fair and if first-time blinkers have a positive effect he is not without hope.

Only four runs so far and nothing to write home about, but is down 2f in trip after finishing eighth of nine on her handicap debut at Ffos Las where she weakened at around this distance. A 3lb drop in the weights may help, too.

Failed to win in 16 attempts for Simon Hodgson, but first start for current trainer, when second of eight at Yarmouth over 7f, was encouraging. Runs off 1lb lower and steps up to 1m, so is an interesting contender if she can maintain her progress.

Without a win for current trainer this year and was some way behind Mutineer when third at Wolverhampton last time. He is a stone better off so has prospects of reversing the form, but his rival is very progressive.

Has failed to get his head in front in 10 starts, but has shown occasional glimpses of ability and ran respectably over 7f off 1lb higher at Brighton last time. Should be on the premises, but does not appeal as the likely winner.

Forecasts

Mutineer (11/4), Pick A Little (6/1), Mcdelta (7/1), Betsalottie (7/1), Masquerade Bling (8/1), Jack Of Diamonds (11/1), Barista (16/1), Beatisa (16/1), Rocket Ronnie (16/1), Spare Parts (16/1), Kassandra (20/1), Spiritual Star (22/1), Rolling Dice (50/1), Olympic Duel (50/1)

Verdict

This revolves around MUTINEER, who is on a steep, upward curve and is taken to defy a double penalty on his return to turf. Most of his rivals are either in the grip of the handicapper or out of form, so it might be unwise to look beyond the obvious. If there is to be a serious challenge to the likely favourite, it may come from fellow 3yos Beatisa, who should appreciate the drop in trip, and Masquerade Bling, who ran well on her debut for her new trainer.
  1. Mutineer
  2. Beatisa
  3. Masquerade Bling
