Makes his nursery debut here after showing up well on his debut in what looked to be a good Haydock maiden over 6f. Last two starts have looked disappointing though but he has been given a break before he goes handicapping and his pedigree still looks a smart one.

Off the mark with a win at Brighton on his fourth start over 6f he's given the handicapper plenty to work on with his mark. Ran his best race in this sphere last time out when taking the runner-up slot in a heavy ground Newbury nursery over 6f probably paying late on for doing a little too much throughout the race and giving best late on.

A useful claimer is booked for his handicap debut having shown steady if unspectacular progression in her maidens. Certainly looks the type to do well in nurseries judged on her two turf runs so far with the mark not looking particularly tough.

Matched his debut effort when finishing third at Newbury last time in a 6f heavy ground nursery making his debut in that sphere (Alaska placed second). Coped well with the trip and ground and may be able to build on that effort here.

Certainly looked to be one for nurseries when showing promise on her last two starts over 5f in maidens. Now heads into handicaps going back up in trip (6f looks to suit) and may well be able to show some more progress off what looks to be a fair mark.

Yard are not noted for their juveniles but this one ran well enough on her handicap debut at York over 5f looking as though she would be suited by the step up to 6f. Dropped 2lb from that York run but hard to write her off on the basis of that form.

Hasn't really stepped upon her debut form in two subsequent starts although she was highly tried in Listed company in one of them. Now makes her handicap debut trying 6f for the first time but more is needed here to make an impression.

Progression was the name of the game with this one in maidens at up to 7f but switched to a nursery last time out over 6f at York he failed to move forward again. Perhaps it's a little harsh to criticise him too harshly for that run (wore first-time blinkers) as the race was a far better one than this and the form has been well advertised.

A winner on his debut at Wolverhampton over 5f on the AW he was gelded after that run and hasn't lived up to his debut form since disappointing at both Carlisle and Redcar. Now gets a chance going handicapping for the first time but those last two runs cast doubts over his ability.

There has been something to like in all her maiden runs so far over 5f although she failed to improve on them on her nursery debut last time out at Doncaster over 6f for the first time. Handled the ground (good-to-soft) well enough there and might be able to get competitive here off a mark of 66.

Beaten in a seller on his penultimate outing the leap forward that he made when winning a Leicester nursery last time out was a little unexpected. It may well have been that he handled the ground (soft) better than anyone else but this looks tougher under a penalty with a few improvers in the field.

Forecasts

Shovel It On (5/2), Alaska (9/2), Contribute (8/1), Story Minister (8/1), Moonlit Sands (8/1), Ce De Nullis (16/1), Hard Graft (16/1), Hermana Santa (16/1), Polar Light (16/1), Our Kid (16/1), Blessed To Empress (25/1)

Verdict

This looks a competitive event even with runaway nursery winner Shovel It On looking well-in under his penalty after his 5L romp at Leicester. However there looked an element of a fluke about that and he faces an all-round stronger field here with quite a few making their debuts in nurseries and open to improvement. Alaska and Story Minister have form in this grade already against each other and are respected while Moonlit Sands could be a danger off her mark and over this trip. Hermana Santa looks a definite improver with Polar Light looking another likely nursery type. The suggestion though is CE DE NULLIS from a yard not noted in this sphere but good with sprinters and her York form looks of interest here and puts her in the picture.
  1. Ce De Nullis
  2. Polar Light
  3. Hermana Santa
