After a couple of barren years he has come back to form with two wins already this season. Was beaten just a short head from this mark at Chester last month, goes on any ground and 5f/6f come alike to him. Each way claims.

1-25 so far and although he ran really well here over C&D (soft) in June, when 3lb higher, it was a rare recent glimmer of form. Cheekpieces fitted and dropped in class now, so may be able to do better again. Best on a sound/fast surface.

Won his first race for well over two years at York last time, when sporting first-time cheekpieces. Front pair had the better part of 2L to spare there and that gives hope that he can defy a 5lb rise. Stable among the winners this week and not ruled out.

At his best on good or softer ground and won here on a sound surface in June over 5f. Subsequently went close from 2lb lower than today at Beverley and with 7lb off his back today he should again be thereabouts.

Won over C&D on soft a couple of years ago, but goes on any ground. Has been on the slide in the ratings after a barren spell and has been showing signs of a revival lately. Capable of getting himself involved again from today's mark.

Yet to win over a trip as short as this, with his best form being over 7f/1m. Was runner-up from today's mark at Chester in June (6f, soft) and now that he is back in this grade he should be able to have more of a say.

Has failed to recapture the heights of his juvenile season, but despite that he has come back to form with good efforts in two of his last three runs, both over 5f and with some cut in the ground. Yet to show he is as good over this trip, but is on a handy mark and headgear may help him.

Not easy to catch right, with 2-23 so far in his career. His best effort of the turf season so far was at Windsor two starts ago (6f, good to firm) but needs more than he produced here over C&D last time, despite being 1lb lower today.

Has done all his winning at either Chester or Musselburgh and again went close at the former venue last time out. From the same mark he has the ability to get competitive again if he is as effective here. Goes on ground from good to firm through to soft.

Without a turf win since 2014 and has been in the grip of the assessor since his latest win at Chelmsford (5f, AW) in April. Not easy to enthuse about his chance from this mark in a competitive heat.

Yet to break his duck but outperformed his 33-1 SP last time out at Doncaster (6f, soft) when beaten just over 1L. This looks a deeper race, but there is no reason why he can improve again.

4lb lower today than when beaten just ½L at Ripon (5f, good) in June. Probably didn't handle Chester last time, so now back on a more galloping track and over a trip that suits, he could go very well. Represents a stable in very good form.

Forecasts

Lexington Times (9/2), Clear Spring (11/2), Gabrial The Tiger (11/2), Lathom (7/1), Toofi (8/1), Lucky Beggar (8/1), Russian Realm (10/1), Signore Piccolo (12/1), Letmestopyouthere (18/1), Captain Lars (25/1), Somewhere Secret (25/1), Monks Stand (40/1)

Verdict

Lexington Times had a little in hand when winning at York, but a 5lb rise will make the follow up bid plenty tough enough. Toofi could be about to return to form now dropped to this grade while Clear Spring, Lucky Beggar, Signore Piccolo and Russian Realm are others with claims. However, MONKS STAND hails from a yard going great guns and he looks to be on the sort of mark from which he can strike now back on a flatter, galloping track.
  1. Monks Stand
  2. Toofi
  3. Lucky Beggar
