Yet to get off the mark but has been better since being gelded, shaping with plenty of promise, and could have much more to offer in handicaps of this nature (and potentially at a slightly higher level as well).

Has been going close without success recently but still seems to be on a workable mark. Mild concern that he hasn't won on turf since June 2014, but he is ground-versatile and this trip is fine for him.

Makes his handicap debut here having run slightly better in the most recent of three maidens, with that race coming over this trip. Still probably best watched, with this opening mark likely to be a little high for him.

C&D winner in a similar race to this last September off a slightly higher mark, but has seemed regressive since and finished last of all off that last winning rating at Bath last time out.

Not convincing since stepped up to this trip, but has hardly been impressive over any distance, and goes off another new low mark now.

Recorded a third career win two starts ago at Wolverhampton before failing to justify favouritism to follow up at the same course last time out. Potentially slightly better on the all-weather but at the same time is relatively lightly raced on turf and could be worth another ago.

Has failed to impress for his current trainer, having not won a race since when he was with his previous yard back in October 2015. In the grasp of the handicapper and very difficult to build a case for.

Same mark as a fair handicap debut at Lingfield last month (1m1f, good to firm). Not discounted if able to improve for a trainer currently in good form.

Age: 4|  Weight: 8-10| J: T E Whelan| T: G Harris| OR:  45

Has beaten two horses home in ten races so far and looks unlikely to be winning races of any kind at any point at this rate, let alone off her current handicap mark.

Beaten 10L+ in all three of his maidens at big prices and rates an unlikely handicap debut winner, stepping up to this trip for the first time.

Captain Sedgwick21
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-2| J: J Quinn| T: J L Spearing| OR:  45

Steps up to this trip for the first time having stayed on encouragingly at Chepstow last time out (7f, good to firm). This distance could bring out the best in her, and she has hinted at ability over shorter.

Clever Lady9
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-2| J: J F Egan| T: P D Evans| OR:  45
4/1
Last two performances have been comfortably her best offerings to date, with a step up in trip helping her. Mark looks fine and she has the potential to be in the mix here from the lowest draw of all.

Age: 3|  Weight: 8-2| J: Robbie Walsh(7)| T: A Stronge| OR:  45

Makes her handicap debut in a first time tongue strap, but even that paired with a very low opening mark seems unlikely to give her a chance given how she performed in maidens.

Forecasts

Clever Lady (4/1), Mordoree (6/1), Viola Park (6/1), Captain Sedgwick (7/1), Aladdin Sane (8/1), African Trader (8/1), Mowhoob (9/1), Rocket Ronnie (10/1), Edge (10/1), Cloud Nine (11/1), Belgravian (14/1), Jump Around (33/1), Red Douglas (33/1), A Definite Diamond (100/1)

Verdict

This could be between some of the fillies in the field, with Mordoree seemingly on workable handicap mark after a solid handicap debut at Lingfield last month, while Clever Lady has relished a recent step up in trip. One who could be yet to benefit from racing over this distance, though, is CAPTAIN SEDGWICK, who hasn't had the most luck so far this season but stayed on strongly in the closing stages over shorter at Chepstow last time and can record a first career win today.
  1. Captain Sedgwick
  2. Clever Lady
  3. Mordoree
