Has run well in some better races than this so far this season, and got up by a head at Ripon last time, but needs to find even more now up a further 3lb in the handicap.
Struggled to get involved in an ultra-competitive handicap at York last time, but the ground there was softer than ideal and better can be expected off the same mark with his sights lowered.
Collated some good form over the course of last year, including when beaten only 2¾L by the talented Alpha Delphini at Beverley. Fitted with a first time hood now and could have a say if overcoming the relatively long lay-off.
Has won five times on the all-weather but hasn't managed to show the same level of form on the turf and is difficult to fancy here despite a gradually lowering handicap mark.
C&D winner in August 2015 but has been on a long losing streak since. Has generally run well recently and is now down to his lowest mark since 2014, which makes him a more appealing prospect.
Went close in a similar race to this at Goodwood last time having run with some credit in Listed company prior to that. Ground should suit and draw will help at a course where it often pays to go from a high stall.
A win last time was his first since landing a listed contest in May 2013, and it came despite the race not panning out perfectly for him. Interesting to see if he continue with that return to form now raised 4lb.
Yet to win for his current trainer having managed to achieve a higher level of form for his previous yard and as a result goes off his lowest mark since September 2013.
Won at Chester in September (6f, good to soft), but remains on a higher mark now, having been beaten 12L by Wentworth Falls two starts ago. Difficult to see him going close here.
Ended a run of second with a victory at Windsor last time, and is put up 4lb in the handicap now. Returns to a trip he's won over before and though he's on a high enough mark he could improve further.
Winner at Thirsk two starts ago before failing to contend with a higher mark in a more competitive race at Leicester last time out. Has something to prove here, therefore, but will prefer the ground.
Forecasts
Evergate (5/2), Wentworth Falls (9/2), Pipers Note (6/1), Dougan (7/1), Red Pike (9/1), Scofflaw (10/1), Son Of Africa (16/1), Iseemist (16/1), Zanetto (20/1), Bossipop (25/1), Ashpan Sam (25/1)
It was a very competitive race at York that WENTWORTH FALLS couldn't land a blow in, and he had run well prior to that, winning two smaller races in a row. He returns to such a race now and deserves another chance off the same mark as that slight disappointment last time out. Evergate will need to continue his progression up 4lb in the handicap but that's certainly possible, while Iseemist has run well in better races than this and shouldn't be underestimated despite now being on a long losing streak.
- Wentworth Falls
- Evergate
- Iseemist
